| Guest | Can you make it look like XP? hi there. Can you make Vista look and act like Windows XP (themes?) i.e. the same way where you had a chance to make XP look like Windows 98 with all the classic menus etc? Simarly can you make Vista look like Windows 98 with classic start menus and Icons? Cheers, Andy. |

| Guest | Re: Can you make it look like XP? sure you can, for what reasons ever you want it to look like that, go here : Start - controlpanel -type in the searchbox in the upper right's box the word Design to make those Applets visible for how to change designs. Click the item you searched for. choose your preferred Design - that would be "Windows Classic" Again in the controlpanel search for Taskbar - this will make Applet "Taskbar and startmenu properties" appear - click it and select classic startmenu instead of the default one. All done, now your Vista is grey and old-fashioned. ( but just give me the right when I say that the Sidebar in that style looks just ugly and displaced.. ) anyway, enjoy smartie "Andy" <andy@indigo.ie> schrieb im Newsbeitrag news:epoe37$vm1$1@news.datemas.de... > hi there. | Guest | Re: Can you make it look like XP? HEY before you rush out and buy Vista let me promise you that the answer to the question: Can you make Vista look like XP? Is NO!!!!! Sure there is a classic mode but that's the WinXP classic mode which is really old and ugly. There is no way in my edition on Vista (Home Premium) to get the current WinXP look. Shame really cos I think WinXP actually looks better than Aero - especilly when it comes to browsing files (I really hate that Vista Windows Explorer). What really annoys me about Aero is that they made the application borders bigger to show off the technology which is pointless. They also failed to properly intergrate the Menu bars in application that use them (Internet Explorer hides them by default for example). Then the maximize just makes everything grey... God it's all just depressing. |

People were used to the bland Win2000 interface and the new XP interface took a while to get used to. Now with Vista, it's deja-vu all over again. You will get used to it. Time moves on and we can't stay with the XP interface forever. <william.hooper@gmail.com> wrote in message news:1170696566.029689.247840@s48g2000cws.googlegroups.com... > HEY before you rush out and buy Vista let me promise you that the > answer to the question: > > Can you make Vista look like XP? > > Is > > NO!!!!! > > Sure there is a classic mode but that's the WinXP classic mode which > is really old and ugly. Meanwhile, I am going to learn chess with Vista (which runs fine even with an antique GeForce4 MX440 64 MB whereas it is very slooow on a Matrox G550 32 MB - even with a recent driver for Vista)! | Guest | Re: Can you make it look like XP? It does seem strange to put a 'classic' Windows 98 Theme in Vista but not a Windows XP Theme in there. As for the look of the Vista icons and button makeovers yuk, they look amateur and jagged - what's with the Start button just being a graphic Icon on it now with not the word 'start' ? and I see even with Vista you still have to go to the start button shut down or log off !?!? - good job they never called it Windows Logic ..... mind you that has a nice name to it really rather than Vista. I had fun trying to open up c:\Documents & Settings folder in Vista today - I kept getting the access denied business scratching my head for over half an hour as to why I went on the net and learned that I had to take ownership of it. - Don't ya just love these new security features built in these days now. In the next version operating system it will most probably be so secure that you wont even be able to start up your PC at all without permissions and taking ownership. ah, Windows 98SE was a good operating system though......... Going from memory, the G550 is essentially a 2D card, whereas the MX440 has on-board 3D capabilities... So that makes sense. |
