Vista - Media Player and Urge

I'm curious if anyone knows how to fix this issue.

I have Vista x64 installed and did the 14 day trial on Urge. It all worked
fine. Ran it into expiration which just happened to be my b-day, so I
figured I would renew the day after when I would be around. Now, via Media
Player, I can't access anything within Urge. I tried uninstalling and
installing Media Player and Urge, doing an upgrade (yeah, I really didn't
think that would help) of Vista on Vista but I can not access Urge at all.
Tried uninstalling Urge and letting it reinstall itself, but it installs a
32 bit version which still doesn't work and the link the the exe points to
Program Files and not Program Files(x86) anyway.

So is there a way to do a real reinstall of Media Player and/or Urge? Going
through the Installed Windows components doesn't really uninstall. I thought
about doing it manually, but thought I would ask first before I mess
something up and have to reinstall the OS.

I'm afraid not - WMP11 is part of the operating system, just as Defender is
and some of the other software. I got a similar thing when WMP11 broke on my
Vista machine - I tried downloading off the website but it's not compatible.
I guess you could reinstall... but definately bug this )

I had the same problem with Urge amd WMP 11 but it appeared after I disabled
UAP (User Account Protection) due to being annoyed with having to "consent"
to making "administrator-like" OS changes. I disabled UAP by going to the
"Tools" tab in System Configuration (msconfig) and launching the "Disable
UAP" item. After that step Urge would never load and I could not sync the
song licenses. I eventially reversed the UAP setting by going back to
System Configuration (msconfig) and launching the "Enable UAP" selection.
After this Urge was working again.

If you still want to disable the UAP Consent dialogue you can do it by
editing the "User Account Control" items in the Local Security Settings
under Administrative Tools.

Doug,

I didn't disable UAP (although I thought about it more than once). I'll try
running the Enable command just for kicks and maybe a miracle will happen.
Doubtful though.

Yep, no go. I even tried creating a new user account and running Media
Player to let it setup for the first time for that user account. Same thing.
I can play a video file or music file...but it doesn't let you do anything
after or during playback. Just sits there with an hour glass and I have to
kill the process.

Weird thing is, it had worked just fine since beta 2 was put out on MSDN for
subscribers.
