| | Slow responses with remote desktop I'm connecting from XP to Vista via the latest version of remote desktop on my home network. For the most people it works fine. However, I notice very often when I'm typing something, everything will pause and about 10 or more seconds later, I see the action. This is making it difficult to use RD. I only have two computers on my network. Is there anything that can be done to prevent these pauses? At work, I remote from XP into WinServer 2003 and haven't noticed these pauses. Here's what the home network boxes look like: Vista: Intel E6600 Core2 Duo, 4GB RAM, 2 300GB HDs XP: P4 3.4Ghz, 1.5GB RAM, 80GB HD Both machines connect wirelessly. Thanks, Brett |

| | Re: Slow responses with remote desktop sure, on the experience tab, set it to connect at dial up speed. this will disable all graphics etc. also, leave sound on the remote computer "Brett" <public_at_cygen_dot_com> wrote in message news:%23KV9xaVRHHA.4476@TK2MSFTNGP05.phx.gbl... > I'm connecting from XP to Vista via the latest version of remote desktop > on > my home network. | | Re: Slow responses with remote desktop Thanks. Once I started unchecking some of the options on the experience tab, it automatically went to 28.8kps. | | First, I never noticed this problem on a wired ethernet adapter. Only wireless. Secondly, BOTH PC's I have here are wireless now - which made me seek out a fix (and finding this thread). I looked at the advanced properties for my wireless adapter (1 wireless-G, the other Wireless Draft-N). Start> Right click Network > Properties > Manage network Connections > Right click wireless card > Properties > Configure Button Under the advanced tab, I maxxed out both transmit and receive buffers - but I don't think this is what helped the problem over here.... I think it was going over to the Power Management tab and UNCHECKING "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power". It kind of makes sense - maybe the OS was doing something with the adapter to see if it were in a state where it could be powered down? Either way - it seems to have had a positive effect for me - I won't know for sure until tomorrow when I try it from work. But locally from machine to machine it made a big difference - no more pauses. YMMV, but hey - can't hurt to try. |

| | Well, tried it - still have the same problem. You can also add this to the list of things that don't seem to have any effect on it: netsh interface tcp set global autotuninglevel=disabled Still playing with it |
