Program Compatibility Assistant Dialog

Could someone please post the GPEDIT policy to disable PCA (or if possible,
just the dialog box)?'

I've tweaked Vista into good working form, but on every boot, the PCA dialog
box comes up in the notification area warning me that Sonic DLA driver is
being blocked and disabled for being incompatible w/ Vista. Add/Remove does
not allow be to remove. Everything works fine, but if I close the dialog
box, another larger window pops up with the same warning. Closing THAT
window brings back the same dialog box in the notification area and so
on....and so on......for 10 or so turns until it finally stops.

BTW, Sonic DLA also appears as disabled in device Manager and I've taken it
out of the start-up to no avail

There are several policies that can be used to tweak PCA. I haven't
experimented with them enough to know exactly which one is going to give you
the desired effect. You can download a spreadsheet containing info on the
policies available in Vista at
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...DisplayLang=en.

That being said, I recommend that work on getting Sonic DLA removed rather
than turning of PCA for everything via policy. Here are instructions from
the Sonic website on how to remove DLA:

1) Uninstall the current copy of DLAusing the "Add/Remove Programs," control
panel.
2) Delete the "DLA," folder from your Program Files folder. (By default this
is located inside: C:\Program Files\Sonic\)
3) Edit the Registry to remove entries relating specifically to DLA. (As a
precaution, please export any registry entries before deleting them.)
a. To start the Registry Editor, click on "Start," click on to "Run," type
"regedit," and click "OK."
b. Open the "HKEY_CURRENT_USER" folder. (If this folder does not exist,
proceed to step f.)
c. Open the "Software" folder.
d. Open the "Sonic" folder.
e. Right-click on the "Direct Access" folder and select delete.
f. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Sonic.
g. Right-click on the "Direct Access" folder and select delete.
h. Go to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID.
i. Right-click on the "{5CA3D70E-1895-11CF-8E15-001234567890}" folder and
select delete. (This data for the "Default," setting in this folder should
be "DriveLetterAccess.")
j. Go to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Installer\Products.
k. Right-click on the "29FE602138E2958RCABC02843CBCD76A" folder and select
delete.
l. Go to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\
m. Right-click on the "VERITAS.DLAEventHandler" folder and select delete.
n. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\CLSID.
o. Right-click on the "{5CA3D70E-1895-11CF-8E15-001234567890}" folder and
select delete. (This data for the "Default," setting in this folder should
be "DriveLetterAccess.")
p. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes.
q. Right-click on the "VERITAS.DLAEventHandler" folder and select delete.
r. Got to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Shared
Tools\MSConfig\startupreg.
s. Right-click on the "dla" folder and select delete.
t. Go to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\AutoplayHandlers\Handlers.
u. Right-click on "VxDlaCdOnArrival" and select delete.
v. Go to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\
w. Right-click on the "{1206EF92-2E83-4859-ACCB-2048C3CB7DA6}" folder and
select delete.
4) Restart your computer.
5) Delete the "DLA," folder from the System32 folder. (This is located
inside: C:\Windows\System32)

Re: Program Compatibility Assistant Dialog

Thanks for the reply. However step 1 fails. I attempted add/remove for
Sonic DLA and it stays there. Would you suggest performing the remainder of
the steps?

RE: Program Compatibility Assistant Dialog

I'm having the exact same issue. I was able to delete Roxio myDVD LE and
RecordNow, but when I try to delete Roxio DLA, the Please wait while the
files are deleted box appears for a second but then disappears without
removing the program.

RE: Program Compatibility Assistant Dialog

Be careful doing add/remove on RecordNow, MyDVD, etc. There's a known issue
which I stumbled on a few days ago where removing these programs will force
the DVD drive to disappear. It will also show up in device manager with a
warning of "corrupt device" or "corrupt driver". There's a KB with a fix
which included removing lower & upper filter values in the registry that
caused me (and two other posters) to blue screen at boot. Running a start-up
repair from the (YES) bootable start-up Upgrade disc will fail. You can
revert to a restore point though, which will fix the "corrupt DVD drive" but
doesn't address the PCA dialog box - so you're back where you started.

BTW - there will be some posters here who will swear thar removing the upper
& lower filter values cannot cause a system crash - but I can attest first
hand that it can indeed - at least in Vista.

Re: Program Compatibility Assistant Dialog

OK Sonic DLA Driver is blocked... but why do we have to click close 7 times
only to have the same message pop up again. It takes 14 clicks to get rid of
the message. Why is that? Is that a Vista thing? Whom to blame?
I am beginning to hate anything Sonic.

Re: Program Compatibility Assistant Dialog

No one is to blame. You did an update install. You left a Roxio product on
the Windows XP install, instead of removing this incompatible program prior
to performing said update.
