burned movies will not play on Vista?

burned movies will not play on Vista?

Im not sure where the problem lays with this.

I have many movies that were burned from my VHS collection to DVD's over the
past 5 years and I can't even get Vista to recognize that there is anything
in the drive. So it won't play any of our movies that we have burned to
dvd. It will play our store bought movies just fine though.

When running XP I had no problem playing any of our VHS converted to DVD
    movies.

    Any solution to this?

Try d/l latest Nero and see if they play using Nero Showtime. I have had
same issues but Nero seems to always play them. Prob the pesky DRM stuff.

Well, I think I have to get over that vista wont even recognize the disks in
the drive first. For some reason vista doesn't recognize the disks in the
dvd drives. I've tried both drives and neither of them will recognize the
dvd when inserted. vista just keeps telling me to insert a disk into the
    drive.

Okay got it worked out. I don't know what it was but after reinserting the
disk about 10 times it finally brought up the win media player and plays
    these movies.

    thanks anyway.

Maybe your burner is knackered, the head is dirty, or the media you are
using isn't very good. In any case, always burn at the slowest speed
    possible for best results.

no, store bought dvd's seem to load right up. I tried about 8 of our home
movies and they all acted the same way. Perhaps there is an issue between
Vista and my dvd drives (drivers).

I think the chances of both dvd drives being knackered is pretty slim since
they have always worked flawlessly in XP, I suppose the media could be the
culprit, they are just some Maxell DVD's. But I'd be suprised if it were
something to do with the drives (other than perhaps a driver issue) or the
media itself since they have always been great in XP and in fact we just
tried it on my wifes XP machine and they load up the first time, everytime.
