Computer: Delete thyself

Here's a good one:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/technology/6320865.stm

"Microsoft has admitted that speech recognition features in Vista could be
hijacked so that a PC tells itself to delete files or folders."

Great potential for mischief here... ;-)

Re: Computer: Delete thyself

I'm not worried, I don't think Vista understands English!

Re: Computer: Delete thyself

Well, I don't think that you could get much done trying to hijack someone's
computer using speech recognition. For one, many harmful things would
require a uac prompt, which I am not sure if you can accept using speech
recognition. Second, unless it is a component of Windows that you are
deleting, which would be protected, then file names would be pretty
dependent on user. Third, most people don't use speech recognition. Lastly,
it seems like a terribly dull and hypothetical way to hijack a computer, not
to mention unpractical.

I think I would notice if my computer started talking to itself. It would
also be funny to see a computer being hijacked by dictating the source code
to a virus into notepad. What would they do? Create an html file? hehe
