| | Anytime Upgrade License Question I have a copy of Vista Business that I received from the Power Together promotion. I would like to upgrade it to Ultimate using the Anytime Upgrade. If I do this and then decide to upgrade my motherboard, video card, etc. will my license still work? Will I have to re-activate it? Will I be able to re-activate it? Thanks! |

You might want to read this about Anytime Upgrades: 1) You will no longer be able to install Vista onto another device an unlimited number of times. You will only be able to install to another device ONE time. This is the same rule that Microsoft had before they changed the EULA because of the uproar. 2) You can no longer sell or transfer the software to another person. You can transfer your copy of Vista only if also sell it with the licensed device. 3) The terms of your original license no longer applies. That means even if you've purchased a retail Vista copy that allows unlimited device transfers and third party transfers it will no longer apply after you've upgraded your copy. |

It cannot be sold unless the device on which it's installed is sold with it, also you are limited to one transfer to different device. -- Rock [MVP - User/Shell] |

| | Re: Anytime Upgrade License Question I am pretty sure that you can move the retail copy of Vista all you want but the AU can only follow it once. | | Re: Anytime Upgrade License Question Thank you for your response... I do not plan on selling my license. I do plan on upgrading my motherboard, video card, etc. one or more times in the time that I own the license. As long as I can upgrade my HW as many times as I would like then I am happy. | | Re: Anytime Upgrade License Question That would depend on whether they are coded as retail license keys or OEM license keys. But that is something I don't know. Note that the anytime upgrade from Vista to Ultimate is outrageously expensive ($160). For $199 or less, you can buy a brand new OEM copy of Ultimate.
