Vista - Mouse Cursor Disappears in Media Center

Greetings everyone!

I just upgraded my system to the new Vista Home Premium version. Everything
seems to work fine however Media Center would cause serious slowdowns of
video and choppy sound. I determined that the problem was with the video
card, so I just upgraded to a ATI X1600XT with 256 MB. Now Media Center and
indeed all of my visual stuff hums along quite nicely. However, I still have
a problem with Media Center that I had before upgrading the video card. The
mouse cursor disappears. Sure I can maneuver using the keyboard, but I can't
figure out how to get to the minimize-restore-close buttons (I have to go to
Task Manager to exit Media Center).

Does anyone have an idea on what is causing this? Thanks!

FYI: My setup
Processor: P4 2.26Ghz
Memory: 2GB
Video: ATI Radeon X1600XT 256 MB @1.38Ghz running dual monitors via DVI
connections. (I have tried running only 1 monitor but still have the same
problem)

During normal use, your mouse cursor should be hidden when running Media
Center full screen, only appearing when you move the mouse. If it's not
appearing when you move the mouse then you do indeed have something wrong.
The main culprit would be your video drivers, see if there is a newer
version available.

Try pressing the Start Menu button on the keyboard,
it should release your arrow and give you the focus back
to move it around.

The mouse arrow getting "stuck" on the secondary monitor
where Media Center is displayed, has been a "problem" for as
long as I can remember.

Steps to reproduce your problem would be helpful. It is possible that
there's a bug. The way hiding the mouse works in .Net code is that you
don't simply show or hide it. If you hide it twice then you have to show it
twice before it appears again. The MCE code could easily be flawed here -
I've made the same mistake myself in code.

I have this near same problem but it is not limited to Media Center.
Nearly all my games as well have an invisible cursor.

I know the cursor is there because I can highlight buttons within
Media Center, Supreme Commander and Vanguard but the cursor itself is
not visible.

I have;
Motherboard:eVGA 680i 122-CK-NF68 (Bios: P25)
Memory: CORSAIR TWIN2X2048-6400C4 (Not OC, 4-4-4-12-2T-2.1v)
CPU: CORE 2 DUO E6600 (Not OC)
VideoCard: eVGA 8800 GTX (Not OC, 100.65 Drivers)

Logitech Dinovo Media Desktop + MX900 Mouse (Bluetooth)

I tried using the Setpoint 3.3 software from Logitech and that didn't
work and made my mouse laggy so I went back to the embedded drivers in
Vista.

I installed DirectX 9c (Feb 2007) but I can't tell if it is in there
properly since DxDiag only shows DirectX 10.

I tried ALT-TABing between desktop and application and that didn't
work.

The only two times it would work is
1) For Media Center I changed the mouse cursors from the Aero type to
3D-White and I could see the cursor but this only worked in Media
Center.
2) For Games running them in Windows mode I could use the mouse but I
don't like to play like that.

So my two conclusions is that it is either a DirectX thing or a
Graphic Driver thing but I can't really diagnose it properly.

Try turning mouse trails off if they are on. A friend and I both had that same problem and that fixed it.

Ditto, brand new computer, I had called the Asus Tech today and they didn't know what to do so they told me to reinstall the entire system, I can't get through to microsoft,, you would think this fix would be in a windows update or something, it's been around for a while I guess. Thank you for your info, saved me a trip to the Geeks Squad.
