Why Windows Vista (Ultimate for example) costs in USA $399.00 (=
€306.50) and in Europe €599.00.
Are we European so rich?

MS needs to recoup it's losses from all those fines the EU keeps
imposing.

Don't know where you're shopping, but in Finland you can get the english
or finnish retail Ultimate for 480 euros, and OEM versions for 180
euros, 32 and 64 bit.

On german computer store websites, the OEM can be bought for 158 euros,
and retail is about 460 euros in german or english.

But I agree, 150-170 euros is a huge price difference.

599€ is too much, for any so...

The System Builder version of Vista Ultimate Full (32/64 Bit) is 169,00 Euro
plus shipping in Germany. Thats what I will get.

I agree the prices in Europe are somewhat over the top
even allowing for tax/VAT etc.
Even by Aussie standards with our GST of 10%, the EU
prices are unworkable for a lot of customers.

One thing we should be asking is; 'What is the wholesale
price for Vista, before the resellers or the Govt get their
fingers in the pie ? And we also have to remember that
the exchange rates are determined by just a handful of
the most powerful banks on the planet !

If that were true -- it isn't and you can't back it up -- generic OEM
versions wouldn't be the same price in the EU as the USA. I suspect that
the retailers are just taking their customers for a ride and MS has
nothing to do with it.

I don't think 189 Euros for the Full (System builder) verison of Ulitmate is
unreasonable.
