Internet Connection problem

After upgrading from Windows XP Professional SP2 to Windows Vista Ultimate, I cannot connect to the
internet unless I go to my LinkSys WRT54G wireless router and change the "Broadcast SSID" setting
from Disable to Enable and also turn on Vista's Discover Network feature. Is there some reason why
I have to broadcast my SSID in order for Windows Vista Ultimate to connect to my wireless network
when it was not required by Windows XP Pro SP2? I tried using "Manually Connect to a wireless
network" twice, typing in my 36-digit hexidecimal WEP access key, with no luck until I turned on the
Broadcast SSID feature. For security reasons, I'd rather not broadcast my wireless router's SSID (I
also use 128-bit WEP security, if that matters).
