| | video board for Windows Vista if I install Windows Vista that has the Aero function, I am told that a new video board is necessary. Does anyone have a suggestion as to which would be the least expensive board that would be compatible? best, Aaron |

| | Re: video board for Windows Vista It may be necessary depending on what card you currently have, essentially the card needs to be directx 9 capable with pixel and vertex shaders. If you dont here's a cheap one on newegg that will work if you have agp port: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814127181 and if you have pci-e: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814127243 <aaronep@pacbell.net> wrote in message news:1170558221.719670.60090@q2g2000cwa.googlegroups.com... > if I install Windows Vista that has the Aero function, I am told that > a new video board is necessary. I switched from a ATI Radion 9250 to a Nvidia 6200 (AGP8) card and that seems to do the trick but I am not sure if the 5*** series card you recommend here would be ok? ron b. > > <aaronep@pacbell.net> wrote in message > news:1170558221.719670.60090@q2g2000cwa.googlegroups.com... >> if I install Windows Vista that has the Aero function, I am told that >> a new video board is necessary. | | Re: video board for Windows Vista You basically need a Radeon 9500+, or a GeForce 5+, or any fairly modern IGP (that's Integrated Graphics Processor for you first-timers). Any machine hovering around the minimum for Vista is not going to have the chutzpah to run the Aero interface. If you've got an AGP 4X/8X slot, you're in good company. Midrange cards from ATI can be had for between $100-150 I myself haven't priced nVidia cards lately, but 6's are quite good. 7's are outstanding. | | Re: video board for Windows Vista I just checked on the Nvidia site -- a bit of a surprise regarding driver availability: GeForce and TNT -- Vista x86 and x64 GeForce 8800 Series -- Vista x86 and x64 GeForce Go7 Series -- nothing for Vista I guess I'd be hoping that the first listing is across the board and does include support fore GeForce 7xxx series adapters. I did note that if you walk through the site you can download a new beta driver for GeForce 6 and 7 series GPU's - available as of 1/31. -- Barry Schnur |
