Vista - NTUSER.DAT Showing Up in Network Location list

For some reason, NTUSER.DAT and ntuser.dat.LOG1 are appearing in my "Network
Location" list when I open Explorer. When I try to remove them (they both
appear to be 0 bytes), I get an error saying that the items cannot be found.
I have looked for entries in the registry with their names, but I couldn't
find anything that associates these files as "Network Locations." I know
that NTUSER.DAT usually refers to the HKEY_CURRENT_USER hive in the registry,
but that file already exists in the normal location (and isn't 0 bytes).
Does anyone know how I can remove these (or at least prevent these files from
appearing as Network Locations).

I'm using a recently installed Windows Vista Business.

I was actually seeing a lot of extra files as well which went away when I
chose not to see hidden/system files. However, NTUSER.DAT and
ntuser.dat.LOG1 still appear.

Very odd. :/

I have hidden/system-attributed files set to be hidden, and I've not changed
it at any point since installing Windows Vista.

I've scoured through the registry looking for something that might be
causing the issue but to no avail. I've even run an SFC /SCANNOW and that
reports that everything is fine.

The strangest thing are those "blank files" in the "Other" category.
Right-clicking on them yields *no* context menu whatsover, so I don't even
have the opportunity to try and delete them of view the properties!

Also, I've noticed this:

The Performance Information and Tools window (where one would revalidate the
system's Windows Experience Index) is missing most of its content. That
supposed "Learn how..." link is not actually clickable either.

This is on Windows Vista Ultimate (x86), installed as an upgrade over
Windows XP Professional.

The same is true for me in the Performance Information and Tools window.

Regarding the extra files in Explorer, did you install any software since
upgrading to Vista, or was this always happening for you? I recently
installed Diskeeper 2007, MS Virtual PC 2007 and VMWare Player and I'm
wondering if that did anything. It seems that since we haven't found anyone
else reporting this issue, it may be specific to our systems.

I've installed very little on the system since performing the XP Pro to Vista
Ultimate upgrade, I've installed a WinRAR update and that's about it. All was
working as expected yesterday, but this evening the problem started. Between
then and now I've not installed anything, nor changed any configuration.

The only thing I have done in that time is connect my PSP to my PC via a USB
cable - Vista claimed it couldn't find the driver, which also flummoxed me a
little as it should appear as a generic removable USB disk, and it has always
worked fine in XP Pro.

Unfortunately, I don't have any of the three applications you describe on
they system, and I haven't had them in the past either, so I doubt very much
that this quirk is due to your installation of those!

I'm experiencing EXACTLY the same symptoms (both the Windows Experience
Index issue and the Computer folder issues, including those empty
icons, etc.).

I managed to trace the Windows Experience Index to TweakVI and fix it
(in Misc Tweaks, "Change system folder settings, ...", Control panel
restrictions II - uncheck "Turn off access to the solutions to
performance problems section of the 'Performance Center'", which for
some reason appears to be turned on by default.

Please let me know if you also installed TweakVI - if you did, I guess
there's a good chance the Computer folder problem is related too.

You know, come to think of it, I did install Tweak VI at one stage, but I
removed it without altering any settings. Evidently it buggered something up.

I have since done a fresh Vista install anyway (my prior install was an
upgrade over XP Pro). I had previously suspected that Tweak VI may have had
something to do with the problem, so I've not attempted to install it again
and everything has been fine!

I actually installed Tweak VI as well, didn't like it, and uninstalled it.
Apparently, it does stuff automatically when you install it. I made the
change and got my performance rating screen back. Did anybody figure out the
NTUSER.DAT problem (without reinstalling Vista)?

I too have had all the problems listed above, using Vista Home Prem.
I installed TweakVI and have now lots of rubbish in my 'Computer' folder exactly as in thos pictures. I got back my Performance page by reinstalling and selecting the options as above.

But I really want rid of all the crap from Computer folder.
Any ideas?
