Driver blocked due to incompatibility

At Vista boot up message appears "Driver blocked due to incompatibility".
Driver is "Sonic Solutions DLA".
I click message and window opens that can be closed or check for updates.
There is no update. I close the window and it immediately re-opens. I have
to do this 7 times before the window stays shut.
In Add/Remove programs the program is listed as "Roxio DLA" and it will not
uninstall. (even in safe mode) I click but nothing happens. The DVD drive in
My Computer does not have a DLA tab to disable the device and thus stop
Vista from ranting.

Is there a way to stop this?

I did a Vista Home Premium update from XP Media Center.
There are MANY things that no longer work and I'm taking things one at a
time.

Re: Driver blocked due to incompatibility

Your description of the error matched my experience exactly.

After 109 minutes on the phone with a Dell tech, the final suggestion (after
manually removing traces of Roxio software from the registry failed) was to
do a clean install of Windows XP, followed by an upgrade of Windows Vista
Ultimate -- since uninstall of Windows Vista is NOT permitted.

I will try your suggestion of removing the KB update, instead.

Re: Driver blocked due to incompatibility

I was able to fix mine. My problem started happening when I installed
Roxio's Photosuite 5. None of the fixes I found on Roxio's, Dell's,
etc., website worked. Here's what I did:

1) Open Windows Explorer
2) Go to c:\windows\system32\drivers
3) Right-click anywhere on the headings (where it says "Name", "Date
modified", "Type", "Size", etc.)
4) Click "More..." on the popup menu
5) Click to check "Company"
6) A new column will be added to Explorer's list called "Company"
7) Click on "Company" heading to sort by Company.
8) Cut-and-paste all files with Company "Roxio" somewhere else like
maybe c:\temp
9) Reboot.
10) If the message disappears, you can probably delete the files you
copied on c:\temp.

Re: Driver blocked due to incompatibility

Uh Oh!!!!,seems the solution has a problem. It eliminates the error
message ok, but after rebooting, the DVD Drive becomes inactive even when
you try to uninstall and redetect the dvd drive. It seems that the drive
wont work without the file Cdr4_2K.sys (which is the driver that the
Operating system, in my case Vista), blocks.Ive tried the the procedure
at the following address,

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315345

but still to no avail,
can anyone help,
Callisto

Re: Driver blocked due to incompatibility

Found a solution that worked for my problem at last.I removed the file
cdr_2k.sys from C:\windows\system32\drivers and rebooted.This action
gets rid of the error message but diabled my DVD drive as previously
stated. To reactivate the DVD drive go to
http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;314060
and use the wizard on this site. This reactivates the drive on
reboot. Some programs such as itunes may have to be reinstalled after
using the wizard, see info on the site, but at least the fix seems to
work.Hope this is of help to anyone.

Re: Driver blocked due to incompatibility

I am having the same problem as the above, yet whenever I followed the
advice of the individual stating that the problem could be resolved by
removing all Roxio products from the Driver folder located in System32 I
came across the same problem as another of the above individuals where
my DVD-RW drive stopped responding completely. I was all ready having
problems with my drive do to whatever reasons unknown to me, I could use
it to burn CD's and DVD's but whenever I attempted to load Oblivion (a
DVD Rom game) the computer seemed not to respond at all, it works with
any other games that are not DVD Rom games and also refuses to work for
DVD's which makes little sense to me being as it IS a DVD Rom drive.
Anyways, whenever I attempted to follow the advice of another above
individual and use the "Fix It" program found on one of the Microsoft
websites it stated simply that an error occurred and refused to install.
I was wondering if there was any way, manually, that I could fix this
problem. The computer I am on is not my own but I did promise my aunt
and uncle that I would fix it while they were away on vacation. I have
only a week to receive a response so any kind of help would be greatly
appreciated. I could let the problem go as they do not use MANY DVD Rom
games or DVD's other than those used for burning (which as stated above
seem to work for some reason or another.) If there is no manual way I
could resolve this issue than any other kind of tech support website
would be greatly appreciated. Please help me, I have never come across a
problem such as this and was actually surprised to see many others are
having the same issues. My computer information, or the information I
believe you may need, my operating system is Microsoft Vista, my drive
is DVD+/-RW/CD-R/W, and it is a Desktop, not a laptop.

Thank you for your time and after reading the above I really hope
someone out there could help me, if not, I'll figure something out... I
have a week to do so.

Re: Driver blocked due to incompatibility

I appreciate the advice but whenever I followed the instructions listed
and even backed up my files which I had to do so through the computer
being as for some reason or another it could not locate the file that
was listed as to be typed in under "Run" to save the registry, but I did
as it said and deleted the Top Filter Bottom Filter stuff as was listed
and I checked my drive and it said there was no drive. As it was I
restarted the computer believing I would have to before it registered
the drive and recognized it, I did so and it was still gone. I cut and
pasted the Roxio files from Temp and put them back in System32/Drivers
and now the Driver is still unrecognized, it does not register at all. I
am not really upset about this but now I am in somewhat of a pickle as I
said above, this is not my computer, I told them I would fix it not
utterly destroy it. So if you could find something or someway I could
just manually put everything back the way it was, I would rather deal
with the driver incompatibility issue than have no driver whatsoever.
Thanks, I hope I get a reply quickly...

Kody
