Re: Installing/Running Windows XP games in Vista Beta2

I would contact the Game Developer about Vista support. Also, post this to
the appropriate ng, microsoft.public.windows.vista.games

Re: Installing/Running Windows XP games in Vista Beta2

As well it's beta! I like to try just to see what happens, heheh. Usually
it will work or it won't. Sometimes with issues it will work, etc.

But it's always best to contact the manufacturer as Andre points out as they
have the best answers but I know of some that have run BF2 in Vista but with
the caveat to do so as Administrator to alleviate an issue with Punkbuster.

Re: Installing/Running Windows XP games in Vista Beta2

I will try to install BF2 to find out if it works and any solutions to the
problem if it does not work

Re: Installing/Running Windows XP games in Vista Beta2

I installed BF2. I had to turn off User Account Control because of
Punkbuster. Being logged in as an Admin wasn't enough. Also, it runs MUCH
slower in Vista than XP64 at the same settings. I will keep trying to see if
I can improve it. Running 2gb ram, AMD4400 and 7800GT.

RE: Installing/Running Windows XP games in Vista Beta2

Battlefield will run OK.
I had to reinstall twice but it finally started working Great!!
It now runs at least as fast as in XP
Run Battelfield as Admininistrator
Don't run as XP
This worked for me.
Vista build 5384, ATI X1900XTX, 2GB Ram

RE: Installing/Running Windows XP games in Vista Beta2

The "Slowness" of games is probably something to do with the absence of a
GDI. No longer using it, now Vista essentially uses an emulator for games not
Designed for Vista, which is currently every single game. I would expect that
some of the bigger titles will come out with Vista patches once Vista is
released.

RE: Installing/Running Windows XP games in Vista Beta2

Hi Robert,
The Only problem I have with BF2 is that I can not set anti aliasing in
video options.
I believe its a problem with ATI drivers and not a Vista problem.
I got: ATI X1900XTX
Don't forget to Run as administrator.
Install BF2, install any booster packs (Special Forces etc), then install
1.3-full Patch.
It runs Great!
