| | Sapphire X1950XT 256mb Anyone else having problems with this card and windows vista ultimate (I'm getting hardware and driver faults) with the new catalyst 7.1 drivers. I know the card is ok as it was working perfectly before under win XP, and also works ok on another up machine. Any Ideas |

So you might be seeing problems that way. Personally, the money saving I've seen on high end video card fans seems foolish as that is a very obvious point of failure -- even more so with all the tools to over clock the cards. -- Barry Schnur |

| | RE: Sapphire X1950XT 256mb Yeh, I have this card and have problems with vista just freezing. Not sure if it is down to the card but, on a system with not much else on it, this has been where my focus has ended. I would be surprised if Vista is pushing this card to anywhere near its max which makes me think it's a software problem. I installed the 7.1 update for vista and it stopped vista complaining about the graphics driver but didn't help with the freezing. What problems are you seeing? | | RE: Sapphire X1950XT 256mb This has nothing to do with temps >_> The card had a 2D and a 3D mode. My card runs at 500/594 in desktop mode, and 621/1800 in 3D mode. Before you start complaining, read some reviews, go to the company website and read. People have been complaining about this issue since this card was released. There are forums full of people saying WOW this thing only runs at 500/594 now, Vista is such a tightly made OS, that I think that when the card trys to change to 3D mode when playing a game that it just doesnt allow the card to do it, so thats why I hope this problem gets fixed in ati catalyst 7.12 you have 3 options to bypassing this problem, all of which only allows you to use 2D mode ![]() 1. Use the latest Cat 7.1 but DO NOT install the CCC (or if you do, be sure to disable the ATI Hotkey Poller service) - Not acceptable because you lose 3D speed functionality and support for profiles and features such as AA, AF, etc etc 2. Use the MS WDM - Not acceptable because you lose 3D speed functionality, support for profiles and features such as AA, AF, etc etc and you are using an outdated driver that is crippling the card. 3. Wait for ATI to release a better driver (are they even aware this problem exists? I posted on 4 forums over 3 weeks ago about it),or purchase Nvidia (who currently isnt doing much better with their drivers). this is some complete BS that is happening, but atleast if you do step one or two, you get to atleast play games >_< there are many topic on many forums on this problem, unfortunately its only limited to the x1950xt because atm it seems that the x1950xt is the only card that has a 2D and 3D mode |

| | RE: Sapphire X1950XT 256mb LOL guess what I've found https://a248.e.akamai.net/f/674/9206...ase_notes.html these are the release notes for catalyst 7.2 out today.....As you scroll down you will see a little line that says that X1950XT cards are NOT supported by windows vista.... so theres your answer, we pay loads of cash for top end cards, and they arn't even supported. | | Re: Sapphire X1950XT 256mb Currently (at least with the 7.2 Catalyst driver version) the 1950XT is not supported (I suspect it will be in the next month or so -- but that's a guess). From the release note: Caution: The ATI Radeon™ X1950 GT is currently not supported under the Windows Vista operating system Another note -- which is a similar issue with the lack of SLI support for Vista from nVidia is lack of support for Crossfire configurations. Another note -- there are PCI-X16 cards ATI is apparently not supporting (outside of generic Vista support via Microsoft): The X200 (often embedded in MicroATX motherboards is not listed). The Capture driver is not supported for Crossfire X1600, regular X1100, and the x200 series. With the 7.2 driver there are still unresolved issues with a number of games as well. So the race is on, which will be really ready first, ATI, nVidia, or Vista <smile> -- Barry Schnur |
