Vista - Re: IE7: Cannot add to favorites

My guess is it's a permissions problem. E.g. did you do the move with
a different account? Then perhaps that changed the permissions of the
folder so that your account can no longer write in it? Etc.

BTW I think that this question really has more to do with your OS
than with IE. Cross-posting for your convenience.

I've just had the same issue and found that it was permissions linked,
though i believe it's actually a UAC problem because the permissions
are technically granted with groups and problem doesn't happen with
UAC turned off

Excplicitly granting Full Control for the folder to my user account
resolved the issue

Background Info
OS: VistaX64 Ultimate
Actions: Moved Favorites folder from C:\USERS\<USERNAME>\favorites to
X:\<FOLDER>\Favorites with Move button on Location tab of folder
properties dialog box

Issue: When tried to add any site (Local or Remote) got afore
mentioned unspecified error

NTFS Permissions were as follows
Authenticated Users: Modify
Administrators: Full Control
SYSTEM: Full Control
Users: Read/Execute

This account was a mamber of the administrators group so should have
been granted Full Control from that group
Effective Permissions for the account confirmed this

Resolution: Grant Full Control permissions to the user account on the
folder

I hope your fix works, as I also cannot import/export w/UAC on:
Vista Ultimate x64 UAC (from clean install) blocks all editing of Favorite
places (favorites): Adding, importing, exporting etc. Turning it off is a
huge hassle with reboot etc.
I have tried an admin command line prompt which allows editing, but then
permanatly blocks import/export functions. here it is:

icacls favorites /setintegritylevel (OI)(CI)low

I have also tried resetting IE7...does not work

Please help

Be sure to close IE and restart it after you modify the permissions.
The change won't take effect until after you restart IE.

Here's the fix: go to properties of the partition (drive) you are saving
favorites to, then to security, and add your user acount, giving it "Full
Control". This will propogate throughout the drive, solving your problem.
