ATI Display Driver Problems

Hi, just bought the Vista Business Ed. and after installing the OS (3 times
already) everything its super slow. Even do the colors are great. it happens
to be like if its freezed like when you try to open the start menu or
anything it does it every 7 to 10 seconds as if it refreshes in that time, i
went to ATI.COM and search for the vista 32 bit drivers for (Radeon X300 PCI
Express 128mb) and its the same... Any suggestions.

Re: ATI Display Driver Problems

I have an Ati x600 and didn't bother getting the software after my Business
install.

I suspect something else is going on. How's Device Manager?

Re: ATI Display Driver Problems

I had a similar4 problem a while ago with windows XP and what I needed to do
was completely uninstall ATI including cleaning the registry of any remnants
of ATI, searching for folders that ATI had installed and delete them then
BEFORE
restarting go to the Device manager and uninstall the
card from the display adapter. Then reboot and go through the process of
installing drivers etc.
By the way I have an ATI card as well (1900 GT) and did not have any
problems such as you experiencing..
Hope this helps.

Re: ATI Display Driver Problems

Well, i thought that would fix my problem but after rebooting, Vista
automaticly assingns the Driver again from their database, install them for
me (they recognized the Video Card instantly) and the "Updated" Drivers from
ATI where installed but, when its finally rebooted the PC comes with the same
problem (im dissappointed) before i bought the Vista i read that everything
was compatible but it turns out to be a headache, whatever the suggestions
are ill try them if you have them, thanks

Re: ATI Display Driver Problems

If you would like help then you need to tell us what your system specs
are, what version of Vista you are running (RC2? RTM? Ultimate? Radeon X1300?
Mobility X300? how many video cards you have in your system.

There is no way to help you unless you tell us enough information for us to
help you.

Ben

Re: ATI Display Driver Problems

on the ATI web site under the drivers section there is Release Notes where you should find Installing drivers, where you will find the instructions on how to MANUALLY remove ATI drivers in prep for installing new ones.
the drivers you updated still exist on the hard drive and that is what vista keeps installing, you need to remove them as well.

Re: ATI Display Driver Problems

Have you tried driver cleaner (http://www.drivercleaner.net/) to get rid of
the old drivers before installing the new one's? I am not sure if it will
work under Vista but it was wonderful in XP. Make sure you follow the
directions.
Also, an idea ... if windows goes out to the windows update site to find the
drivers have you tried to shut off the internet before restarting? Or in
Device manager try and update the drivers for the video card and point it to
the new directory where you unzipped the ATI drivers instead of letting
windows find and install the drivers automatically.
