IE7 restarts itself

Have posted on this before, but still looking for a solution .

IE7 restarts itself automatically after I close it down, under Vista Ultimate. Any ideas ?

Re: IE7 restarts itself

It restarts for just about any reason. I have found no pattern and MS says it doesn't happen. The most used new component of my Ultimate install is "Problem Reports and Solutions". Nice thing except that it only reports problems and has yet to provide a solution.

Re: IE7 restarts itself

Disable the adons see what happens Tools menu and if I remember right
(sorry boot from 3 OS's get confused as to how IE7 installed on each)
I think that somewhere on the start menu there is even an Icon for IE7
to run with no addons.

Re: IE7 restarts itself

Have looked in the IE7 add-ons sections.

Only 5 of them running ("currently loaded in Internet Explorer"):

1) Shockwave flash object (from Adobe)
2) Norton Confidential Browser (Norton Internet Security 2007 installed AFTER the problem started)
3) Show Norton Toolbar
4) Tabular Data Control
5) Windows media player

Those are the ONLY add-ons enabled. All others are disabled.

When I look at the "Add-ons that run without requiring permission", there's more listed as "enabled" though.

So, why does IE7 restart itself after I "X" it out? Trying to find a pattern here. It doesn't always happen. They mystery deepens.

Do you perhaps have Microsoft Fingerprint reader? It has a symptom like you report. An annoyance but reported by several posters including me.

Re: IE7 restarts itself

Actually yeah I have the MS fingerprint reader with DigitalPersona 2 software. I believe the symptoms started after I installed it, but not 100% sure.

Yes an annoyance only, but if it restarts IE7 without user intervention, I can foresee a virus attack point eh!

I too was having a similar problem with x64 SP1 IE7. It closes all IE7 windows when you close any window and then restarts. I too have finger sensor. It built into my HP HDX. But I was able to clear the problem, by not starting Google Toolbar v5 beta.

My advise, remove all your IE7 startups and see if your problem clears, then test each one -- one at a time.
