Vista - Wow! Vista is incredible!

I hadn't looked at any recent Vista builds until downloading and installing
the CPP Beta 2 today. I am impressed! I know there are a lot of posts of
people having problems, but Vista installed and runs without a hitch for me.
Most of my hardware is new (in the last year or so), but not bleeding edge.
So for you folks having problems... Keep tweaking and hopefully you can
resolve your issues! Because Vista is a beta there are problably some
fundamental flaws in the software, but at least some folks/configurations are
not having significant issues.

I run XP on two SATA drives with RAID 0, and my data is stored on two IDE
drives with RAID 1. I bought another SATA drive to install and run Vista as I
didn't want to impact my Windows XP installation/setup.

If it helps, my configuration is as follows:

ASUS A8N-E MB (1013 BIOS)
ATI X1300 video card (Vista drivers)
150 GB SATA drive (clean install)
1GB of cheap RAM
Belkin pre-N wireless network card
Symantec Antivirus 10.0.1.628 (w/Vista patch)
Not sure what else is important...

I love the eye candy and like the fundamentally new OS with its new features
and protection. I already told the wifey that she'll get a new laptop in 2007
when we can buy one with Vista installed.

It's good to see a positive post every once in a while since the majority
seem to be MS sucks or I hate Vista. It's beta so not everything will be
working initially and it's not all the fault of MS. There are hardware
manufacturers that have to get in gear as well. It's a collaborative effort
that will require work from multiple sources.

A majority are working, I'm one, since they are using hardware that either
have beta drivers or was common enough that MS already had what they needed
for it to work. But even I still have things that aren't working. But it's
BETA! So I don't expect it. However I was very pleased with the progress
so far and all in all it looks to be as stable if not more than XP (each OS
seems to get more stable providing you have good hardware, applications and
drivers.) But finding that utopia can be tough for a lot of people. Even
the pros hit snags and it's very difficult to determine where the issue is.

Still, I'm impressed and I like what I see so far. However those that are
constantly running into issues these are the folks that MS wants submitting
bug reports and feedback. I certainly hope that those folks will otherwise
they aren't helping anyone. I have a pretty long list of things that I'll
be submitting if I'm not able to find a fix for them or they are obvious
bugs.

I would not say its incredible but its not at all bad and it looks
great. I have some issues also which I will report in a few weeks if I
cannot fix them but most of the problems are because its a beta and
obviously not finished.

Ya I think it is a pretty good step towards a good OS. The only thing I am
concerned about is how CPU and RAM consuming it is to run menial things, like
posting this reply. I will be attempting to see how it runs on some games
this week.

Hey Jack,
I was going to try some games this week too. First I have to work out a
sound issue. My SB card isnt supported by beta drivers at creative. I guess I
milked this old sound card as long as I could (sb live value lol). Going to
grab X Fi today and reload vista. Also worth mentioning. My PC was dual boot
XP Pro 64 on C and XP home on D. When I loaded vista(where XP Pro 64 bit was)
I lost the dual boot screen. Anyway no big, its a beta. What games will you
try? I am going to start w CS Source and BF2. My expectations are low, hoping
I will be suprised.

Hey Jack,
I am going to load a few games this week too. CS Source and BF2. I have to
replace my old SB live value card first. I am going to use the Creative X Fi
extreme music 7.1. Let us know how and what games you loaded please.
Also, before I loaded Vista I had a dual boot PC with xp pro 64 on the c
drive and xp home on d drive. At the end of the post I could choose pro or
home. I decided to load vista where pro was. I ended up loosing my dual boot
option and only vista would load. I currently have XP pro on c and d is
empty. After I get the new card I will load vista on d and see if I loose
dual boot again.

GDI emulator is working. I didnt get around to doing it yet, in grad school

Hi there I have a Belkin PReN wireless card bit Vista wont install it as it
says software version not recognised!! I also have sound blaster audigy 2 ZS
sound card and it will not work as says card is not supported. Howe did you
get your belkin software to work??

for your Wirless card try to use XP drivers, i have a linksys and i'm using
xp driver just fine. Now for you audigy 2, go to this link and follow the
steps exactly and will work.
