Thin black line on screen

PC: DELL Dimension E520 512mb RAM, 3.0Ghz Celeron, with onboard Intel
Graphics Windows Vista Home Basic.

There is a very thin black line on the desktop about half an inch long. I
have tested with CRT monitor and TFT Monitor and it still there and it moves
sometimes to a different area of the screen. Stands out more when exploring
or white background but not there when there is wallpaper on the screen.

Anyone else noticed, seen this or heard of it?

Not sure, but sounds like a fault with your graphics card...(?)

Have you installed the appropriate video adapter driver from Dell?

Hi All,

Just received my bran new Dell Dimension E520 with intel G965 Express
chipset have the latest driver from Dell and I also have this thin black
line. Intel release a new driver but we can't install it on Dell computer we
will have to wait for Dell !

Just deactivating the Video card driver and solved the problem. I really
hope that dell will release a new driver SOON !!!!!

Andy,

You bet ! :-). Tried to contact Dell Tech support yesterday after waitng
more than 2 hours without talking to a human I finnaly hang up the phone.
I'll try again today I want to know why the original intel file refuse to
update Dell computer !

Yes, I have come across that and its a very bad design that you cannot go
direct to Intel.com and download a driver direct from there. Did you get the
'this driver is not for your PC contact your manufacturer' message? - even
though the correct graphics driver was selected from the site. - You see if
Intel update the drivers but Dell don't put that updated driver version up
on their website or are late in getting it what is a person supposed to do?

I hardly ever use the phone support of Dell now, I opt for Dell Chat live
chat with a technician which I find much better to use personally.

I am just waiting for my elderly client to phone me up and say 'hey Andy
there is a black thin line on my screen that wont go away!' - haven't got
the call yet but what am I supposed to say that I am waiting for Dell to
bring out a new graphics driver. Its very unprofessional.
