How to get rid of "- Shortcut" on Vista shortcuts

Is there any way to get Vista to not append the "- Shortcut" text onto
shortcuts I make? The shortcut arrow let me know it's a shortcut, I don't
need it to tell me it's a shortcut by labeling it "Shortcut".

This regedit works as it did under XP [paste the following into a .reg file]
Log out then in after clicking.

    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer]

    "link"=hex:00,00,00,00

    Kalex,

Be careful of any tweak you use for removing those shortcuts.
The standard registry tweak used in XP has some adverse
affects on Vista. Your Favorite Links in Windows Explorer
may no longer work. The Games link on the Start Menu may
no longer open up. Another tweak for removing the arrows,
FxVisor 32, has been reported by some to leave big black
square boxes where the arrows were.

There is another (I haven't tried, yet) at the site below.

    <quote>
Most Tweak programs remove the arrows by renaming or removing the IsShortCut String Values from
    the registry.
Windows uses this value to track links, if you remove or rename the IsShortCut value lots of
programs and features that use links won't work correctly -> in Vista the shortcuts in Favorite
Links, Media Center and in the Games Explorer won't work anymore.

The files in the zip file below remove the arrows the same way as TweakUI does in previous
Windows versions; it refers the icon to another icon.
If you refer it to a completely blank icon, the overlays turn black when you restart Explorer
or Log Off and Log On again.
Solution: I've created a blank icon with some transparent pixels and with the same sizes as the
default arrow (imageres.dll,162) -> no more arrows & no black overlays.

Are you sure that's related to that particuar tweak? Works fine here.

No, I'm not sure. I haven't tried the one you listed.

I do know that the FxVisor registry tweak has caused *some*
    to see those black boxes.

Yes, there are no doubt a variety of such tweaks in circulation with
differing effects. You were right to advise caution

    Michael,

You're thinking of removing the arrow from the icon, the OP is asking about
supressing the addition of "- Shortcut" from the name. The regedit supplied
    by Jon is correct.

For removing the arrow overlay on icons, deleting 'IsShortcut' from the
registry is WRONG. FxVisor32 was going about it the correct way, just
    problems with the icon itself.

Kalex clearly stated that, too. I simply saw the word "shortcut" and
assumed he meant the arrow overlay.

    Thanks, Keith.

    Take care,
