extended tiles in sync center

Hi,
I lost the option "extended tiles" from the popup menu --> view in the sync
center. Instead of this option , I just have "tiles". Any ideas how to get
this option back ?
Thanks.

RE: extended tiles in sync center

It's not just me then. I have had the same problem, and it is really
frustrating. Hasd it a while ago, and either a System Restore or the
deinstall/reinstall of the WMDC stuff seemed to sort it.... not this time,
though !!! Just been through System Restore, deinstall/reinstall WMDC, remove
and recreate partnership... and still the Extended Tiles have gone from the
"View sync partnerships" page, meaning I don't have easy/friendly access to
the status of the syncs in one place!

Interestingly, extended tiles still exist in the "Setup new sync
partnerships" page, so it feels like it is either a simple registry issue, or
maybe a DLL registration issue. But I can't find anything anywhere else about
this, and I have looked around on various forums, etc.

RE: extended tiles in sync center

Well, I sort of found the solution a few days ago. As the sync center is
using the explorer process, I found that the "reset folder" option in tools
--> Folder options --> view tab did the job... Pretty simple uh ;-)
Thanks for the reply anyway !

RE: extended tiles in sync center

Thanks Jerome

Tried this (and it made lot of sense) but it did not work for me. Still have
the same symptoms after the "reset folder" option.

RE: extended tiles in sync center

Finally, I have worked out a fix - although I am not 100% sure of the details.

*** ONLY DO THIS IF YOU ARE AN EXPERIENCED USER AND UNDERSTAND THE RISKS OF
WORKING WITH THE REGISTRY ***

I had another (local) account on my machine which did show the Extended
Tiles ok, so I looked at the various areas where SyncMgr was in the registry
on this machine, especially those in the HKCU, and found a section which
looked hopeful. With a but of trial and error (backing up registry, etc. to
make sure it did not cause other problems) I found that there was a registry
entry somewhere in the are

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\Local
Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell

which had been corrupted - by copying these across to the user I was having
the problem with, it reinstated the Extended Tile in Sync Manager.

Not sure which registry key was the cause of this, and now I'm back up
working, will not be looking at this in more depth, so I hope that this helps
someone else in a similar position - and allows them to identify the exact
key (if so, please can they add this into the thread).

So, in terms of fixing this problem (losing the Extended Tiles on Sync
Center):

1. First try using the Reset Folder option in the View Tab of Explorer's
Tools/Folder Options.
2. If still not fixed, try System Restore to see if this resolves the issue.
3. If still stuck, and you have another user on the machine which does work
ok, they look at the registry area above and maybe do a compare of the files
to see what is missing.

As always, if making changes to the registry, make sure you have a backup
before the changes (or at the very least a System Restore point) and be very
very careful, as changes to the registry can cause system instability, etc.
etc.

RE: extended tiles in sync center

Hey, Thanks for your insight. I finally found the final fix!!!!
Somehow the shell registry settings have been corrupt. So I made a simple
reg file to fix this. Just put the following lines into a reg file an then
double click on it :

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\Wow6432Node\Local
Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell]
[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\Local
Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell]
[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\BagMRU]
[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\Bags]

All the default settings of all shell windows will be erased, but at the
same time, it solves the shell corruption.
