Vista - power issues in vista ultimate

Hi
I have a bespoke system built around an ASUS AM2 M2n-E motherboard and AMD
64 X2 4200+ CPU with Vista ultimate 32bit installed.

Under windows Xp SP2 I used to rely on AMD's cool and quiet functionality
which was both bios enabled and driver installed. Since Vista, these settings
have been disabled in the bios and as no C+Q driver exists in Vista, nothing
has been installed.

Since migrating to Vista ultimate - as a clean install - I am unable to
control power settings so that:

1. screensaver activates after 'X' minutes - whatever i try, SS does not
activate
2. in power savings, I have opted for 'balanced plan' even with 'turn off
display after' 10 mins and 'put computer to sleep': 1 hour - nothing happens.

Any advice on finding a solution to this would be greatly apprecaited.

You will have to trun OFF User Account Control (UAC) by going to
START/CONTROL PANEL/ USER ACCOUNTS and clicking on the link, "Turn User
Account Control on or off." You will required to reboot. Then make all your
adjustment as you want them. When done go back and turn UAC ON. You will be
require to reboot. Your settings will remain from boot to boot.

Could there be some pwer saving conflict going on?

I'm having the same exact problem. I have an Asus P5N32-SLI Premium/ WiFi-AP
motherboard running a Intel E6600 processor.

Well, I understand the AMD cool&nquiete + AMD drivers are already packaged
with Vista?

The only thing I did was download an HID patch driver during a windows
update and all is fine,

I narrowed my problem down to my Microsoft Wireless Laser Keyboard/ Mouse
combo. With the receiver plugged in Vista wouldn't go into Power Saving mode.
So the HID patch would make sense (HID = Human Interface Device). I'm going
to reload Windows Vista and give it another shot. I'll let you know my
results.

As a side note, I think it's rediculous that Microsoft's own hardware that
is touted as being Vista compatable right on the packaging causes problems
with it's own software.

I reloaded windows, downloaded the HID patch available through Microsoft
Update and the power saving mode works perfect with my Microsoft Laser
Keyboard/ Mouse combo.
