| | Need to uninstall vista I bought a new computer with Vista and I am not happy with it. to many driver updates that are not available and I really dont want to buy all new software. I guess the easiest way to go would be to format my hard drive and install XP Professional on it ? what is the easiest way to format my hard drive before installing XP? |

That can be done from the XP installation CD. Boot from it and do a clean install. Make sure you have the XP compatible drivers for all the hardware in the system burned to a CD including the chipset drivers to install after XP is installed. Clean Install Windows XP http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/cleanxpinstall.html If you care to post what software and hardware you're having problems with maybe someone can offer some suggestions. -- Rock [MS-MVP User/Shell] |

| | Re: Need to uninstall vista Hi, You don't need format drive before installing XP - installer do it during instalation process. Easiest way is: - put CD with XP to drive - select new installation (obiously you can't update from Vista to XP ;-) - select partition where presently is Vista installed (I cant remember if you can do it in Windows mode yet) - format partition (for sure in text mode) Marcin Domaslawski "et60629" <et60629@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:38802512-BC45-4706-8903-0479812ECDE1@microsoft.com... >I bought a new computer with Vista and I am not happy with it. to many >driver > updates that are not available and I really dont want to buy all new > software. I haven't been able to get MMJB 10 to run either. It gives an error on mim.exe. They have not released a Vista compatible version yet. I sent them an email asking about it but got no reply. Someone replied on one of the newsgroups that they were running it in Vista. I didn't get any info on how they got it installed, though. I use WMP for music now w/o MMJB. Haven't used the Roxio Player at all so I don't know if that would be a decent replacement. Roxio Easy Media Creator v. 7.5 is runs fine for the most part. The Sonic programs either won't install or won't run if they do install. Sonic backup is the one app that won't install but I have never used that anyway. I use disk imaging, currently Acronis True Image Home version 10, for backups. It does both imaging and file backups. Neither Cineplayer or MyDVD SlideShow will run. All the other apps in the suite including Drag to Disk, Creator Classic, and Disk Copier work fine. I haven't used the other Roxio apps in that suite much but they all start. I'm not inclined to update to EMC 9.0, the cost is a bit pricey, and since most of the apps work I see no need to at the moment. I don't know about the Lexmark Printer. There was a post in one of the Vista newsgroups about Lexmark printers lately. You need to check on their web site to see if there is a Vista driver or if one will be forth coming. My NEC SuperScript 860 Laser Printer doesn't have a Vista driver and NEC will not support it any more. This is not uncommon with printers and scanners. It is old but very good still. I keep a multi-boot with Vista and XP for the printer. -- Rock [MS-MVP User/Shell] |

| | Re: Need to uninstall vista I haven't gotten a response from MMJB either, no response from lexmark, and roxio wants you to upgrade, like u said its pricey. with the multiboot do you need to install programs twice? once for each system that is if a program works under both. say I have excel installed and use it under vista and save my document.can I reboot access that document under xp and print it ?
