Is Google Desktop Necessary?

I just got a new dell laptop with Google desktop installed on it. I don't
use it or want it but am not sure if I need it for the search function in
Vista. I'd like to uninstall it but can live with it if it is necessary for
the search feature on my laptop. Any advice would be appreciated.

Re: Is Google Desktop Necessary?

Vista has it's own Desktop search built-in.

Re: Is Google Desktop Necessary?

No it isn't necessary. You can search for what you want from within Vista's
own desktop search on the start menu.

Re: Is Google Desktop Necessary?

The Vista seach can actually replace the Google Desktop. You can uninstall
it and still be happy! The Vista search works very well.

Re: Is Google Desktop Necessary?

My advice is to keep it and compare it with the search above the start
button in Vista. It uses little resources and space, once it does its
initial indexing, and they are complementary. There are things that Google
search is going to find in terms of old emails and files searched by
specific words that Vista search won't. Both searches can be tweaked.
