Vista - product key

my dad just purchased a new pc with vista on it. he tried to open an
attachment on an email i sent him and a box popped up wanting a product key
or a trial product key. we don't know where to find the product key can
anyone offer some help neither of us are very computer savvy.

Be careful and check to see what is asking for a product key it may be
malware or a Trojan.

The product key will usually either be on the computer case or with the OS
software packaging/guide.

Maybe the latest phishing attempt? Get everyone to send their Vista product
keys to China.

Ok the box say that it is from microsoft. still confused he doesn't now if he
needs to put the number in or not he has netzero as an isp. he is calling
netzero to ask them

Microsoft never asks for you product keys through email. DON'T DO IT!
