| | Re: I386 Folder and CMPNENTS folder on my C: drive. those are from XP Media or Tablet Edition ,not Vista. your OEM has put them on HDD, likely that you have no original XP Disk, but only the files on Harddrive. Burn them to disk for backup purposes, because the i386 plus the cmpntns contains all the files needed to reinstall XP. That Cd will not be bootable, so in case you need also to create the floppy disks to start the XP setup. Lookup Microsoft Website, they have the floppies for download. I guess you have made a Upgrade to Vista - that would explain your question. If you plan to use vista alone and are lucky with it, have backuped the folders and all then you can delete them. Like I said, in Vista there are no such foldernames.SO Vista wont miss them ![]() SJ / germany "GT" <GT@discussions.microsoft.com> schrieb im Newsbeitrag news:E328196E-A8FC-4D57-85CD-378887DA4C43@microsoft.com... >I have this I386 Folder and CMPNENTS folder on my C: drive. what is this >and > is it ok to delete this? |

| | Re: I386 Folder and CMPNENTS folder on my C: drive. I don't know if it is true for VISTA but in XP and earlier \i386\ contained files that are on the media disk for installing Windows. This can be useful for repairing or for if your optical drive goes down. Perhaps someone can confirm for VISTA. My advice is don't delete anything unless you are very very short of drive space in which case get a larger hard drive. I see too many: "I tidied up my Windows installation and deleted a lot of unnecessary files .... and now it doesn't work. What shall I do?" |
