| Newbie | Re: Can't Select Text in Word 2007 / Vista : SOLUTION - TRY THIS Kudos to you. It worked for me. I appreciated the help. Roger Hi Again, A SOLUTION THAT WORKED FOR ME: I posted my similar experience that noted by 'rthrasher' about an hour ago and have been trawling around since looking for a solution. THE FOLLOWING WORKED FOR ME BUT please make your own decision and back up first, like good little boys and girls. If you go to: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/921541 and follow the instruction below to delete the the Word Data Registry Key (making sure ALL windows programs are closed. Word then rebuilds the registry key using deafult settings on the next Word start up. It fixed the problem for me on Vista Ultimate x64. If it doesn't work for you, additional steps are also shown on the same page. I hope this helps. Now if only Canon would issue 9900F scanner drivers! Manual steps to troubleshoot problems that occur when you start or use Word loadTOCNode(2, 'moreinformation');Important This article contains information about how to modify the registry. Make sure that you back up the registry before you modify it. Make sure that you know how to restore the registry if a problem occurs. For more information about how to back up, restore, and modify the registry, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base: 322756 (How to back up and restore the registry in Windows XP and Windows Vista) How to back up and restore the registry in Windows XP and Windows Vista Warning Serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly by using Registry Editor or by using another method. These problems might require that you reinstall the operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that these problems can be solved. Modify the registry at your own risk. Delete the Word Data registry key loadTOCNode(3, 'moreinformation');Most of the frequently used options in Word are stored in the Word Data registry key. A common troubleshooting step is to delete the Word Data registry key. The next time that you start Word, Word rebuilds the Word Data registry key by using the default settings. To view these options in Word 2002 or Word 2003, click Options on the Tools menu. To view these options in Word 2007, click the Microsoft Office Button, and then click Word Options. Note When you delete the Word Data registry key, Word resets several options to their default settings. One such option is the "most recently used file" list on the File menu. Additionally, Word resets many settings that you customize in the Options dialog box. To delete the Word Data registry key, follow these steps: 1.Exit all Office programs.2.Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.3.Locate the following registry subkey, as appropriate for the version of Word that you are running: 標ord 2002: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft Office\10.0\Word\Data 標ord 2003: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft Office\11.0\Word\Data 標ord 2007: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft Office\12.0\Word\Data 4.Click Data, and then click Export on the File menu.5.Name the file Wddata.reg, and then save the file to the desktop.6.Click Delete on the Edit menu, and then click Yes.7.Exit Registry Editor.8.Start Word. If Word starts and works correctly, you have resolved the problem. The problem was a damaged Word Data registry key. You may have to change several settings to restore your favorite options in Word. If the problem is not resolved, restore the original Word Data registry key. Then, see the "Delete the Word Options registry key" topic. To restore the original Word Data registry key, follow these steps: 1.Exit all Office programs.2.Double-click the Wddata.reg icon on the desktop. 3.Click Yes, and then click OK. ------------------------------------------- I have the most perplexing problem - When opening or creating a next text document in Word 2007 (part of Office 2007), I cannot select any text with the mouse - I can select text with the arrow keys + shift, but not the mouse. I can select menus, and use the mouse cursor on other parts of word, but not on the document. Also when I click on the office button, and choose Word Options (thought I may look there), I cant choose any of the categories on the left - I cant "checkmark" and change things on the choice pane, but not change categories. This is only in Word - other office products installed ie Excel and PP work great with the mouse, but not Word. I have tried other Mice, downloading new drivers from logitech and MS, but it WILL NOT WORK. I am about to go insane - can anyone help - PLEASE! |

| Guest | Re: Can't Select Text in Word 2007 / Vista Thank you for saying you found the answer. I needed to hear that someone has solved the problem. I have been working on the problem for 2 days now with no success. I went to your link and read the information, but I'm just a novice and need more specifics like: step 1, step 2 etc. Can you help? Thanks "Nada" wrote: Quote: > I found the answer here: http://www.itwriting.com/blog/?p=140 so my problem > is solved. > > nada > > Nada pテ*ナ。e: > Quote: > > Hello, I was so happy to find that someone has found the solution to this > > impossible problem which makes my life difficult. | Newbie | Re: Can't Select Text in Word 2007 / Vista I followed some steps but made it simpler but just renaming the file: 1.Exit all Office programs. 2.Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK. 3.Locate the following registry subkey, as appropriate for the version of Word that you are running: 標ord 2002: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft Office\10.0\Word\Data 標ord 2003: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft Office\11.0\Word\Data 標ord 2007: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft Office\12.0\Word\Data 4.rename the file to: Olddata.reg 5.Exit Registry Editor. 6.Start Word. If Word starts and works correctly, you have resolved the problem. The problem was a damaged Word Data registry key. You may have to change several settings to restore your favorite options in Word. Good luck |

| Newbie | Re: Can't Select Text in Word 2007 / Vista Hello - I had the exact same problem with Windows 2007 (not letting me select/edit any typed-in text). I followed the directions in KB921541 (for Vista). I have no idea what caused this condition. Using the directions in the article, after deleting the specified registry key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Word\Data I was able to restart Word 2007 without the problem. The directions indicate that you may export your Word settings, but I really don't care to try and reproduce what few settings I had. Just glad it started working. Many thanks to the person(s) who pointed out this KB article! Robert Cohn Software Engineer Wacom Technology Corp. rcohn@wacom.com |
