DreamScene Preview by Windows Update?

It seems Microsoft is deploying beta software by Windows Update now.
Windows Live OneCare informed me this morning that there are two updates my
computer "needs". First is an update for the junk e-mail filter for Windows
Mail. I agree, even though I don't use Windows Mail except for newsgroups.

The second update is Windows DreamScene Preview. I cannot believe Microsoft
is trying to get me to install beta software on a production PC. Most users
will automatically install whatever Microsoft and OneCare say.

Well, I guess they are just trying to tease us since they still can't
deliver on the promise of DreamScene.

Re: DreamScene Preview by Windows Update?

And Dale, the preview is not categorized as "Criticle", thus it will not be
downlaoded automatically.

Re: DreamScene Preview by Windows Update?

Try to tease us? Yet you complain that it says that it is available? Yes, it
is in a beta form, but it does work great, and it's a nice feature to have.
And as stated before, you DON'T HAVE to install it. Windows won't
automatically install it as part of Automatic Updates.

Re: DreamScene Preview by Windows Update?

Not to mention the fact that the build they put out was tested rigorously
for stability and is by no means what I would call beta quality.

Re: DreamScene Preview by Windows Update?

It will be by Live OneCare.

And I still don't think beta software belongs on Windows Update.

Re: DreamScene Preview by Windows Update?

You seem to have a misunderstanding about Windows/Microsoft Update.
It is not just for Critical or Security updates and never has been.
That is why there are options for drivers, recommended and other optional
items.
Dream Scene will not be delivered unless the user specifically asks since it
is not delivered with Automatic Update.
Vista Ultimate owners are also far from typical.

"Microsoft is trying to get me to install"
Not at all.
However Microsoft is offering a preview since many are asking for
DreamScene.
Do not confuse an offer with anything more.

Also there is no indication DreanScene is Beta.
No where did I see the word Beta and AFAIK, Microsoft always labels Beta as
such.

Re: DreamScene Preview by Windows Update?

How about the fact that I was one of the beta testers for this particular
Extra and have run the various builds throughout the testing phase for it?

I have the ability to prove that as well if you'd like

Re: DreamScene Preview by Windows Update?

"It will be"?

It's not, Ultimate Extras are not counted into OneCare.

Also another product that I beta test actively still.
