| | 5+ minutes boot time I've been running Vista Ultimate since December without too many major problems. In the last couple of weeks, I've noticed that on one of my machines the OS now takes about 5 minutes to boot (was previously 15-20 seconds). There's 5 minutes of black screen after the boot options and before the Copyright screen with the green bars appears, and from then on it's as normal. When I try booting in Safe Mode, the last driver to load successfully at normal speed is ataport.sys and then comes the 5 minute wait, then it continues. I religiously keep up to date with Windows Update, and I'm fairly sure this only started after installing a recent update, possibly my SATA controller. Any ideas? This is very inconvenient. TIA. | | RE: 5+ minutes boot time Would this machine happen to be either an IBM or a Lenovo? If so, there are known Vista boot issues (and 2 hotfixes) for these. Be willing to try the hotfixes though, as I guess it's possible I'm using a component somewhere that also features in the machines you mentioned. BTN |
