| | taskbar goes bonko Taskbar has gone unresponsive on a couple occasions. Not sure what the cause is or what pattern exists. Was not able to press any buttons ... the right side icons disappeared, and the START button went bonko. Had to do hard reboot. just wondering if there's others out there as well... | | RE: taskbar goes bonko Same problem. In an effort to narrow things down, tell me please if the following is true for you: 1. Using a Dell notebook. 2. It only happens when the notebook is docked. 3. When you click on the windows button, it only presents a shadow. 4. It often happens when you come out of screensaver mode. 5. A reboot eliminates the problem, but it always comes back. | | RE: taskbar goes bonko Yes I do have a dell notebook.. a Inspiron 6000.... as far as i know it does this only when it is at home on my desk..when i click on the start button sometimes it only shows half of it..other times it opens it but i`m unable to open anything from it...and it does it sometimes when i come out of sleep or screen saver..and a reboot does fix it temp. | | RE: taskbar goes bonko Interesting. I spent about 2 hours yesterday afternoon online with Microsoft, going through tests and possible fixes. We started eliminating programs on startup, and when I disabled all but Microsoft's programs, the problem ceased. However, I could no longer use Word. Go figure. But I'm now suspicious that since this problem only happens when the Dell is docked, it has something to do with either the dock mode system itself, or something attached to the docking station. I'm going to spend some time this weekend experimenting with the external keyboard, monitor, mouse, etc., and see if that fixes it. If I find a fix, I'll let you know. If you find one, please let me know. | | RE: taskbar goes bonko After hours talking with Microsoft, and after disabling one process after another and not finding the answer, I finally did. Sort of. I installed the new Tweak for Vista (http://www.totalidea.com/content/twe...kvi-index.html) and enabled some of that program's taskbar options (fade, etc.), and Tweak seems to have either stabilized the taskbar, or taken control of it. Either way, my taskbar now works, and keeps working. I'm giving up on finding a fix other than Tweak. | | RE: taskbar goes bonko Hi There I found a fix for mine too...microsoft figuared out that it was my dell bios..it was not vista compatable..so i flashed it and reinstalled vista and everything works great...but if you are going to flash the bios you will have to reinstall vista becuase the bios that is not compatable with vista curups the vista system files...so the only way that you can fix it is by reinstalling it..after flashing the bios..hope this helps "Missoula" wrote: > After hours talking with Microsoft, and after disabling one process after > another and not finding the answer, I finally did. | | RE: taskbar goes bonko Interesting. The guy at Microsoft I've been talking to, had me disable the sleep mode on my computer, and I haven't had a repeat of the problem. But, your solution sounds better. Can you tell me... when you reinstalled Vista, did you have to then also reinstall all the dang programs and settings? That would be a hassle, indeed! | | RE: taskbar goes bonko I would first of all like to say that I like the title of this diss. group because it does go "bonko"! I am currently downloading TweakVI and I hope it works because I am at the point of throwing a copy of Vista @ Gates! I just bought a Gateway and I don't have it docked or anything like that the only way I can relate is that the taskbar goes bonko after comming out of sleep mode.
