Yet another reason to wait until Vista is ready for Prime Time. If MS'
own programs don't work in Vista, how can one expect third party
programs to work?

Recommendation: clean install XP and wait for Vista to be ready and stop
being a free guinea pig tester for MS.

RE: messenger

macca & Kerry:

This may sound stupid, but are you opening
Windows Live Messenger or Windows Messenger ?

The two 'icons' are very similar, but have a slightly
different colour.

I don't use Windows Live Messenger often, but
when I do it fires up straight away with no problems
on Vista Enterprise.

Just a thought !

Yes, go back to the web site and find the correct version!

If I fall across it again, I will post it!

They do work. I'm having no problem with Windows Live Messenger (8.1)
in Vista.

Where did you download it from?

What version is it?

I'm running the 8.1 beta on my computer now and it's working quite
well.

I'd suggest uninstalling it then reinstalling it, but download it
again first from here:

http://get.live.com/messenger/overview

Click on the "Get it free: button to download.

Versions from other places (e.g. Download.com, Tucows, etc) may not be
current.

Re: messenger

I have tried uninstalling redownloading several times, computer supplier even
suggested returning computer to original factory settings and then installing
still same every time first 'Messenger has stopped working - close program'.
second
'Messenger has closed - data execution Prevention has closed messenger -
click for help. Third help suggests then takes you through turning off DEP
for that program. BUT when you try you are informed it cannot be turend off
for that particular program. --- back to the beginning again.
