Windows Vista Login error

I'm an administrator on my Windows Home Premium Vista machine and I get this
error when logging in: Windows could not connect to the system event
notification service service. I can still log in, but my wife, who was a
regular user could not log in at all. Things were working fine before. I
think the only thing I did of any siginificance between the time it was
working and the time this problem came up was to share the Public file on my
home network.

Any ideas on how to fix this would be appreciated.

RE: Windows Vista Login error

I am having the exact same problem. If someone would post an solution that
is easily understandable for the home user, it would be greatly appreciated.

RE: Windows Vista Login error

I'm also having exact same issue. Just started happening and I'm not sure
what caused it.

I am also having the same problem that just started today. If anyone has an
answer it would be appreciated.
Thanks

ahh the joys of windows

I just applied a windows update and thought nothing of it. Suddenly nobody can login without this error other than system administrators. Best solution I've seen so far for this problem is here:
microsoft.public.windows.vista.general | Google Groups

Don't know if it works or not yet. Seems you have to make everyone an administrator, login as them and then after you've done that you might be able to turn off those rights.

I've never had a problem like that for any other operating system I've used (and I've used quite a number of them). As the saying goes, better anything than vista!

RE: Windows Vista Login error

I actually just restarted my computer and it seemed to solve the issue. Oh
well!
