Re: Vista mail outbox message stuck

No, that's a different issue.

Not sure why your old emails are disappearing from Sent Items.
Which antivirus program are you running? Any other third party
security program like anti-spam or anti-malware?

Re: Vista mail outbox message stuck

It is over a year since you wrote your suggestions but they solved my
problem. I could not delete an item from my Draft folder. I used your link
www.oehelp.com/WMUtil/ and prominently displayed on the page is the link to
downloading the solution. While the link says it solves the problem when
items in the Outbox cannot be sent, it solved mine as well. Thanks. It was
not a big problem since it only occurred in the Draft folder but it was
irritating.

I'm glad it worked for you. MS finally released that patch after 11 months
of the problem.

Re: Vista mail outbox message stuck

There's also a newer fix available:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/941090

Although it's labelled as for mail stuck in the Outbox, it also works in
other folders.

This hotfix, and more, are also available in the Vista SP1 update, but this
takes longer to install.

Hi Mromick,

This will help show you how to fix the stuck undeletable email message problem in Windows Mail for all folders.

The KB941090 update will just fix the problem for now. You must stop the cause to prevent it from happening again. Read the "First" section in this tutorial about antivirus programs to help prevent this from happening again, then install the KB941090 Microsoft Update in the "Second" section to fix the stuck message problem.

Re: Vista mail outbox message stuck

Hi, Mromick.

You can't "re-install Vista mail". Windows Mail is a built-in part of Vista
and can't be uninstalled (by mere mortals), so it can't be reinstalled
without reinstalling all of Vista.

It wouldn't do any good anyhow. The problem is not in the Vista program,
but in the data and metadata, and those wouldn't be affected by a reinstall.

Steve has already given the right advice. Either take that or do what many
of us have done: Download and install the free Windows Live Mail (note the
subtle-but-significant name change) from:
Windows Live Mail
http://get.live.com/wlmail/overview

Installation of WLM will delete the icons and pointers for WM, but the WM
program will still be available in All Programs and you can run it
side-by-side with WLM if you like. Many of us did this for a few weeks
while getting familiar with WLM. I've not seen any user report a "stuck in
the Outbox" problem with WLM.

Peer-to-peer support for WLM is in the
microsoft.public.windows.live.mail.desktop newsgroup. (Ignore the word
"desktop"; it was deleted from the name of the program a year ago but still
appears in the NG name.)

Re: Vista mail outbox message stuck

As I had said before but my post was mainly ignored - the way to get rid of a
message that is "stuck" in a particular folder is to move all the messages
you want to keep into another folder and then delete the folder the "stuck"
message is in - it works every time.

Wrote that way back when I first tried the Vista "upgrade" that I received
for my new PC that came with XP (early 2007) - went back to XP after about 3
days of Vista nonsense. But here I am back in Vista again since recently had
a problem with the PC and could not get the reformat to XP to work - could
only start it with the Vista upgrade disk - I have not given up trying to get
my beleoved XP back though.
