Vista - By default, Vista goes to standby mode instead of power-off ??

is it true?
when physically press the power button once or click the default off icon in
Windows Vista.
system goes to standby mode, not power-off ??

is the standby mode in Vista is identical to the one in XP?

I remember i was once manually set my laptop at standby mode and keep it in
my bag for hours and find that my bag is a bit warm. so i will never use
standby mode again even it resume system much faster than power-off mode.

you answered your own major point in the tile - "by default" - if you don't
like it change it, just set it to shutdown instead.
