| | Vista has slow network access It would seem that the released version of Vista is a bit 'slow' when it comes to accessing a network. With a gigabit connection and Windows XP, Windows 2003 R2 servers, we experience a bit of a pause when clicking the 'Network' icon. Vista seems to look for Vista PCs first and then look for other OS'. Here is the process: 1. Click on 'Network' from the desktop 2. Local PC name shows up 3. Approximately 2-3 seconds later, all remaining domain PCs and Servers show up This seems to happen all the time. Data transfer speeds are fine. It just seems to stall when showing all the PCs and servers in the domain. Have performed the following: 1. BIOS is up-to-date 2. Intel NIC driver is up-to-date 3. IPv6 has been unchecked 4. Receive Window Auto-Tuning Level has been disabled Anyone else experiencing this issue? Is there a fix? |

| | Re: Vista has slow network access Sort of. I spoke to Microsoft support yesterday. Not only did the confirm the issue, the replicated it on their end. They 'say' that the delay is 'by design' in Vista. It has to do with the new way Vista Pcs look for network resources. Microsoft is trying hard to move away from Netbios traffic/Master browser and this is the first step. We did numerous Netmon test and confirmed all on our network was fine. ou can even open a Cmd prompt and do 'net view' to see that tour network is fine. Now with all that said, Microsoft did claim a number of people have begun to complain about this issue. It ties into their WDS and NLA systems is what we figured out. they confirmed our theory. On their own 200 machine network, it took nearly 2 minutes for all PCS and servers to appear. So, the delay increases in proportion to network device totals. Not good. It is apparent to us (and then) that a serious issue has been uncovered. Dunno what the boys in Redmond plan to do. they did admit it was 'worse than they initially thought.' We'll see.
