Vista - Vista disappointment

Discovering that many things were moved to new locations was not a
pleasant surprise, like learning a new system that works the same
way, just that somebody rearranged the keyboard?

Then to discover that most likely large numbers of old programs will
not work was not surprising, but enought incentive to stay away from
using it? The upgrade process is tedious?

I would return my purchase for a refund, but I don't like doing that?
I'm just thankful I bought the basic and not the more expensive
version? Add more features to your hearts content, but don't put the
old timers through the wringer, we have enough stress?

I'll leave Vista to any new computer purchase, providing I don't stock
up on some old hardware to put it off for a few years? The new system
is not any more secure in my opinion than the old one, as long as
software updates are online, there is more risk?

Nice graphics, but it seems to fizzle? I want a computer system, not
finance a new generation of software engineers that do the same things
in different orders?

I'm VERY disappointed in Vista too. It is very nearly unusable. It
probably is safer however, because turning it off in disgust is likely
pretty secure.

The rearrangement is bad, but we can probably eventually relearn that.
There are several bad things, but the stupid UAC is unbearable,
requiring confirmation every time copying a file, deleting a file,
starting a control panel application, etc, etc, etc, etc. I cannot
imagine that any batch can run now. A pathetic crippled mess.

I was at the Apple site to watch some of the Mac Guy/PC Guy commercials
(which are funnier every time), and it required downloading Quicktime.
That required FOUR different manaul approvals from me just to get it
installed. YES, THAT REALLY IS WHAT I JUST SAID TO DO! Over and over
and over and over. I hope who ever thought that up has been fired.
Lord help us if they are still there thinking up more ideas.

It makes XP, such as it is, look really good now. Probably the time
will come when Vista becomes necessary, but I am shelving it until then.

Well, Microsoft has totally dropped the ball in my opinion, if I had
the time and inclination to learn a totally new interrface and ditch
all my programs for new ones, then that sounds a whole lot like
adopting Linux? So from a marketing standpoint, it is a complete
disaster?

Sure, you sold me on upgrading to a newer, more secure system. That
should be work behind the scenes? Why do I have to "personalize" the
system? What in the world was wrong with the old way of turning off
the computer? I'm not even sure if the install activated or not (it
must have, it didn't ask).

I installed on my laptop, and of course the default display settings
were 600x800, horrible on a laptop. Much to my dismay the display
icon was missing. The fun began.

The cosmetics are beautiful, but if you want to sell on security
standpoint, don't release the product until all the vendors have
software for Vista on the shelves? You can't even install anti-virus
software before connecting to the internet, you have to download it?
Sort of like asking the thieves to call the cops for you?

It's a premature release in my opinion. Then there is all the legal
bananas -- what in the world is Windows Defender? Is it anti-virus?
I'm surprised the European Union did not sue Microsoft for their
firewall. Why not throw in anti-virus? Really, anti-virus and anti-
spyware is the same thing, right?

I think the computing environment needs improvement, and can grow.

I'm going to shelve mine too. I compared it to adopting Linux, but I
must admit after long thought I would probably
go try a MAC machine first. I've never heard a complaint from a MAC
user that rings a bell. There are so
many versions of Linux you can end up with a PHD trying to make an
intelligent decision.

Microsoft is embedded as the "approved software" of most hardware,
which really makes me think the European Union are a bunch of
hypocrites? Why don't they demand scanners, printers and other
computer hardware manufactorers to provide compatibility software for
other operating systems?

Maybe it is because they are just a bunch of lazy socialists who were
salivating at the pile of money that Microsoft had built up for
investment purposes? Makes me wonder, for entertainment purposes of
course? Of course if I was Bill Gates, I't throw that arguement at
them and tell the judge the lawsuit amounts to "cruel and unusual
punishment", I don't see others getting punished.
