| | Good Newsreader software? I am currently using Outlook Express to view the newsgroups and it just seems, well, cumbersome I guess. Anyone suggest something else to use? Was thinking about Thunderbird but thought I would ask for people's opinions before I install anything. I'll be using the software from XP Also what would you suggest for using for the same purpose in Vista? I havent tried the Windows mail yet... cheers |

| | Re: Good Newsreader software? I personally use Agent as my newsreader, it seems to work fine in Vista so far. It's availabe at www.forteinc.com "Bones" <idonthaveone@blah.com> wrote in message news:O9hBp0fjGHA.4044@TK2MSFTNGP03.phx.gbl... >I am currently using Outlook Express to view the newsgroups and it just >seems, well, cumbersome I guess. I have not touched Lookout Express for many years and Thunderbird whilst good is a pain in the arse to set up. Windows Mail, dunno with MSFTs record of security howlers on OE its gonna take a lot more than a pretty interface to get me go near it. Jonah |

Thunderbird might server as a good alternative, but may want to check out MesNews and 40tude Dialog. Both have a nice feel to them and a features that Agent doesn't have yet. And they're free! I've used it for twelve years, now. I've tried all the alternatives, but none can hold a candle to Agent for ease of use and features. The fact that there are keyboard shortcuts for EVERY task is what sets Agent so far above the competitors. Once you get facile with it, all the others make you feel as though you're stuck in quicksand. |

The latest version works fine on Vista too. I prefer Thunderbird because it is simple, cross-platform (I also use it on my linux box and it may have a mac version out), and secure. It looks like you received alot of good suggestions, so try a few and see what you like. -- Person who run in front of car get tired. Person who run behind car get exhausted. |

It looks like you received alot of good suggestions, so try a >few and see what you like. There is an OS X version of Thunderbird. In fact, there are OS X versions of almost EVERY Mozilla browser. However, I personally abhor Thunderbird as a Usenet Client. It is a good mailer, but a very poor Usenet Client. It doesn't have a rich-enough rule set for Usenet reading.. This is why I stand by Forte's Agent Newsreader and Email. I don't use Agent for email, since a large part of my email is HTML, and Agent won't properly render HTML, but it is THE top-of-the-line Usenet client. I've used it on my Windows boxes since it was first a public beta. Now that I can dual-boot between OS X and XP (and hopefully, soon, Vista) on my Intel iMac, I use Agent exclusively for Usenet access. == Donald L McDaniel Please reply to the original thread and newsgroup. ===================================================== |
