| | Vista VPN basics Hello: Can someone please help me with this? I am not very knowledgeable about how to fix network issues. My XP desktop is able to connect to my University's VPN just fine. BUT, I can not get my new Vista deksotp to connect to the VPN. The helpdesk is unresponsive, just saying it is a problem with microsoft. Is this a known issue? Is there a patch out? I can't find one. Thank you! Daniel |

| | Re: Vista VPN basics There are several know issues with Vista and VPN connections. It's unlikely anyone can help you when you give no substantive information to work with. What kind of VPN e.g. IPSEC, PPTP? What server? What happens when your try to connect? What specific error code, if any? Server Name: vpn.fuqua.duke.edu Typical settings (Validate identiy-> Require Secured PWD, require data enryption) Type of VPN - Automatic This allows me to connect just fine. But when I replicate the settings using the VPN utlity, it does not go past veryfing username/pwd and says the wizard cannont connect Where can I find the error log or a log of why it can't connect? Thank you, Daniel |

| | Re: Vista VPN basics That does help. Unfortunately L2TP is complicated and can involve several authentication methods. This link might be of some use. http://www.jacco2.dds.nl/networking/vista-openswan.html You might take a look at Event Viewer logs to see if any specific error messages are shown. Run eventvwr.msc ..
