| | spybot UAC hello. I was wondering if there was a way to stop vista asking me if it is ok to run spybot. I know why UAC is there and I appreciate it. it would be nice if it would remember my choice. I have tried taking ownership of the spybot folder. im sure I am missing something. I have changed permissions to full access as well, (my account is administrator)... any help? |

| | Re: spybot UAC There is nothing you can do, assuming that you don't disable UAC. UAC will prompt you when you run any program marked by the software developer to request administrative privileges. Tasks that require administrative privileges are those that modify the state of the operating system. Creating a checkbox to have it remember your selection would almost defeat the purpose of UAC. If that was implemented, malware could mask themselves as that program, possibly by using that program as a launchpad to give itself administrative privileges without your knowledge. The ability to programmatically manipulate administrative privileges is a bad thing. To disable UAC (poor choice, you lose Internet Explorer's Protected Mode and UAC protection): Go to User Accounts, click on the link "Turn User Account Control On or Off". You will likely get much more spyware with IE Protected Mode off, so that would actually be couter-productive if you are doing this to be able to run spybot without those prompts. Consider just using Windows Defender. It is a very good spyware solution. -- /* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Robert Firth * * Windows Vista x86 RTM * * http://www.WinVistaInfo.org * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * */ "watercress_soup" <someone@mydomain.com> wrote in message news:efxpD6sWHHA.1396@TK2MSFTNGP05.phx.gbl... > hello. > > I was wondering if there was a way to stop vista asking me if it is ok to > run spybot. | | Re: spybot UAC Until the software developers begin to bring out software that runs in "user" mode (instead of requiring administrator mode) you will have to deal with this. BTW, there are almost NO programs that should require administrator privileges to run. The developers are just being lazy. -- Regards, Richard Urban Microsoft MVP Windows Shell/User (For email, remove the obvious from my address) Quote from George Ankner: If you knew as much as you think you know, You would realize that you don't know what you thought you knew! | | Re: spybot UAC I'm wondering if this would work but I have not tried it. Look at the properties of the shortcut to Spybot & the compatibility tab. Tick box to run as Admin.
