Of course. WORD is a separate, retail application. However, there is a
free Word VIEWER available, and there is other software on the Net that
can read that file type.

Re: Word docs in Vista

If you want to be at least able to read your Word docs, Microsoft offers
free viewers for most of its Office suite.

The viewer for Word can be downloaded at:

Re: Word docs in Vista

Did you get WORD on your new system? Do you know that WORD isn't part of
Vista, but it's a seperate program?

You can get a word viewer if you wish, take a look at the other posts.

Re: Word docs in Vista

I know that Dell used to include Corel WordPerfect on many of their PCs. I'm
not sure if HE-UP does the same. However if your machine did come with
WordPerfect, there is a built-in converter that allows you to open Word
documents and, if you want, edit these documents.

Re: Word docs in Vista

You can use the free Openoffice at www.openoffice.org which runs fine in
Vista.

You might try OpenOffice.org instead.

Appreciate all the responses. Guess I should sign in as "Ignorant" instead
of "Disgusted." I'll give Openoffice a try.
