Vista - Media Player anomaly

When I listen to WMP (say an MP3) when I look in task manager the
applications shows the player. When I close the player using the X in the
upper corner, the player keeps on playing, and the application no longer
shows. There is no place I can find the player (not minimized to taskbar).
The only way I can find to stop the sound continuing is to go into the task
manager/processes section and stop the wmplayer.exe there. Way too
annoying. Anyone solved a similar problem.

I wrote my own app to play mp3's using DirectX and it plays songs that WMP
will not play (at least not with volume and I have checked the sound mixer).

Stop using MS products in vista and maybe you will be able to get past this
terrible operating system.
