| | How Do I Delete PUBLIC from Desktop How do I get rid of the PUBLIC folder on my desktop. I can't delete it with the mouse or with the right click. It is not one of the available folders to view in Control Panel-Personalization. When I directly copied over one of my XP Profiles (didn't use wizard - just copied) it isn't on the desktop of that user. How do I get rid of it? I don't want it accessible to my users because it is a local harddrive folder and I don't want them saving anywhere local. I have removed saved permissions to it but I don't want it on the desktops. Please tell me how to kill it. Thanks Lara |

| | Re: How Do I Delete PUBLIC from Desktop Hi Jim, Yes - I am sure. I am a network Admin so I do it all the time. Anyway, I figured it out. I posted it on this board. http://www.microsoft.com/communities...0-bc9dfb31832e Copy into Notepad and name with .reg extension. Double click to add to registry. Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\explorer\HideDesktopIcons] [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\explorer\HideDesktopIcons\ClassicStartMenu] "{4336a54d-038b-4685-ab02-99bb52d3fb8b}"=dword:00000001 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\explorer\HideDesktopIcons\NewStartPanel] "{4336a54d-038b-4685-ab02-99bb52d3fb8b}"=dword:00000001 Cheers, Lara "JimR" wrote: > "lforbes" <lforbes@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message > news 99415C6-2EB7-4E69-AD3F-4E5653FD34F7@microsoft.com...> > How do I get rid of the PUBLIC folder on my desktop.
