IE 7 & YouTube

I just browsed to YouTube and clicked on one of the videos and received the
following message. "Hello, you either have JavaScript turned off or an old
version of Macromedia's Flash Player." I already have Adobe's Flash (been
installed for quite a while but reinstalled it just in case) and when I
clickes Vista for Help for the Java problem, there was an entry on my IE
Tools menu and it's checked. Any ideas as to what's causing the video's not
to run?

Re: IE 7 & YouTube

Could be you need the latest Java from www.java.com
Or you need to add youtube website in trusted zone

Get the "Windows Flash Player 9 ActiveX control content debugger (for
IE)" from:

http://www.adobe.com/support/flashplayer/downloads.html

After you run it, you can view the videos at YouTube again.

Kind regards,

Re: IE 7 & YouTube

FlashPlayer 9 Active X control content debugger did it. Thanks. I find it
interesting that when I clicked on [at Adobe's site] get the latest flash
player I did and installed it the videos wouldn't play until I d/l the
Active-X and installed that. Vista/U is becoming more and more undesirable.

Does Vista/U mean Upgrade or Ultimate?

Anyway, just to add another data point, I got the same message about
installing the Flash plug-in (which I hadn't done before) but I had no
problems at all after installing it. No idea why the difference.

Ultimate.

Perhaps I not sophistocated enough to fully understand the intricacies of
the OS!

Me too!

Did you install Vista as an upgrade, or as a fresh install? (Others in
this group have posted that Ultimate is not reliable when installed as
an upgrade.)

Re: IE 7 & YouTube

Despite all the answers you got here and your own success, I think the real
issue was whether you were using the 64-bit version of IE7 or the 32-bit
version.
I don't think there is java for 64-bit IE. Or at least there wasnt for a
long time.
So anytime you accessed YouTube while in the 64-bit version, you were likely
to get that message.
Try it again, but be sure you're trying it from 64-bit IE, not the 32-bit
version (Vista provides you with both). If I'm correct, you'll still get
that java error message when you're using the 64-bit version.

Re: IE 7 & YouTube

I myself had a similar issue. I resolved it by going to
C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash, right click "FlashUtil9b" and select
"run as administrator". Give it a try, I hope this helps.

YouTube doesn't do Java. It's Flash.
