| | Cannot access internet after sleep mode Hi everyone. I am not sure if I am posting in the correct place, so please bear with me. I am using Office 2007 on my laptop running Windows Vista Home Premium. I am on a wireless network, am experiencing the following problem: When I close the lid to my laptop, the laptop goes in to "sleep mode". After opening the lid, I cannot access the internet and get a send/receive error in Outlook. When I check the status of my wireless connection, it shows that I am connected and that the signal strength is acceptable. I have to restart my laptop before I can access the internet or send/receive mail in Outlook. I had a similar laptop (almost identical, just larger HD) that was running Windows XP Professional, and did not have this problem on the same network with the same network settings. I was however running Office XP on the other laptop. I have a POP/SMTP account set up through Yahoo for email. I am not sure what other relevant information that might help. I appreciate any help or suggestions. Thanks in advance, Ken |

Sometimes if I wait a few minutes after starting up from sleep mode, there is no problem. I don't know if it's a problem with the wireless network, internet provider, or Vista. The only solution I've found is to shut down the computer rather than use sleep mode. I'll be watching this thread to see if someone has a solution. | | Re: Cannot access internet after sleep mode Have you tried unplugging and replugging in the connection. I no longer have sleep on my new machine, but on my old one if I disconnected the RJ-45 plug for a few seconds and plugged it back in it worked. Not a great solution but a hell of a lot better than restarting. Was for me at least. | | Re: Cannot access internet after sleep mode Hi John, thanks for the repy and suggestions. My laptop uses a wireless connection, so there is no physical connection. I like to have the sleep mode because I am confined to bed a lot, and frequently close the laptop and set it aside for a while before using it again. I don't like the idea of turning off the laptop off and then back on again so many times. Anyway, thanks again for the suggestions. | | Re: Cannot access internet after sleep mode maybe try switching off your wireless device and then turning it back on. i find this helps if ever the internet or something isn't working correctly. maybe its a slight bug or something. its a bit annoying having to do that but if it works for the moment until an update is released... although i have found wireless connection over vista is far superior to xp. before on xp home the connection seemed to drop every minute or so, i think as it was, stupidly, searching for a better connection... on vista i don't have that problem and it seems to work very well. steve "Keninsb" <Keninsb@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:2F4DDE01-ADF7-413F-AB02-CD657F4A4F22@microsoft.com... > Hi John, thanks for the repy and suggestions. > > My laptop uses a wireless connection, so there is no physical connection. > I > like to have the sleep mode because I am confined to bed a lot, and > frequently close the laptop and set it aside for a while before using it > again. | | Re: Cannot access internet after sleep mode I just learned something pretty interesting. At the suggestion of another member here on the board, I installed a program called Network Magic to solve another problem that I was having (I could not see another XP PC on my home network). I had tried EVERYTHING to solve that problem and spent fruitless hours working on it. Anyway, Network Magic not only solved my networking problems, but now when I lose internet access after sleep mode, I just click on the "Fix Problem" button in Network Magic and it repairs the connection! I am REALLY impressed with this product. It is really easy to set up and use, and it's free. Sweet. Anyway, the program can be dowloaded here: http://www.networkmagic.com/ Just thought I would pass this alonng. | | No internet after resuming from standby. I have the same problem when resuming from hibernation i still have my WIFI connection but it either says local only or IE runs really slowly. I know its a vista problem because my other PC running XP and my Mac all connect fine. It seem's to be an issue with Vista. The only way i have found to sort it is to either reboot the laptop or disconect and reconect to the network. I am currently looking for a proper solution to this problem and will let you know soon as i find one. EggHeadCafe.com - .NET Developer Portal of Choice http://www.eggheadcafe.com |
