Live one care vs. windows firewall

I recently installed live one care on a vista ultimate unit. The system
security check window says that my firewall is off. The one care security
window says that all is O.K. and that the firewall is on. I check the
windows firewall window and it is indicated as off and I am permitted to turn
it on. Are there two separate firewalls and does live one care turn off the
windows firewall and turn on its own firewall.
Thanks in advance .
Chas

Re: Live one care vs. windows firewall

Windows and One Care BOTH have firewalls and One Care turns off the Windows
firewall which is why you are seeing that message. If you turn them both on,
you will be gently told that having two one is not a good idea but you can
do it if you want. I just let One Care take care of it.

RE: Live one care vs. windows firewall

I am experiencing the same thing. Windows firewall says it is off after I
have turned it on just minutes before. And when I go to the Windows security
centre it tells me everthing is on and is secure!? But the real head
scratcher is when I go to the task bar where the Live One icon is (it shows a
green indicator and tells me that status is good ) when I click on it it
tells me that Live Care has stopped working!!??
Any suggestions or comments on these strange things would be appreciated.

You will probably get quicker answers by posting to one of the OneCare groups.

Re: Live one care vs. windows firewall

Also, it is normal for OneCare to disable the Vista firewall. It substitutes
it's own firewall.

The first issue and the one Chas posted is easily answered.

Windows Live OneCare disables the Windows firewall and Windows Defender, by the
way, as it presents an interface to manage the firewall from within OneCare. If
you turn on the Windows Firewall, OneCare will turn it back off.
I mentioned Defender, too, as the behavior is similar. OneCare will turn it off
if you turn it back on. The antispyware capabilities are included in the
definitions and engine within OneCare.

The second issue is a problem. If your status is green, then all is well with
the services. When it reports that it has stopped working when you try to open
the interface, it is a problem with a different part of the program. It may be
indicative of a conflict, a resource problem, corruption in the OneCare
database, or any number of other things. Your best bet for this second problem
is to contact OneCare support - see this post:
