Opening word 2003 documents in vista

I have a strange problem when opening word documents on Vista using office
2003. Occasionally when I open documents directly from explorer, Office will
open it up in read-only mode. I can reproduce this with relative ease yet it
doesn't do it with Windows XP.

Place a couple of word documents in a folder on a file server, and just
systematically open up each file and close it again - the quicker the better.
Repeat a few times and you should find that one of the documents at some
point will open up in read-only mode. Its quite annoying. Has anyone else
come across this and if so, anyone got any suggestions as a work around?

Any help would be most appreciated.

Thanks ...

Mark
