Windows Explorer will not expand at "Computer"

Windows Explorer will not expand at "Computer"

In Explorer, all of my columns will open, and of course still have the
"expand" triangle to the left of them. But when I click on the "Computer"
one, the triangle disappears when I click on it, and will not expand. Hence
the only way to get to C: is to type it in the address bar, which works.

    Registry issue?

From your Desktop (or in the Start Menu, on the right side), what happens
when you right-click on Computer, and choose Explore?

I am taken to the "Computer" area of Explorer, and it is unexpandable still.
    No triangle symbol.

In the navigation pane, when you right-click on Computer, is Expand grayed
    out (dim)?

In the navigation pane, when you right-click on Computer, is Expand grayed
out (dim)? Do you have any mapped network drives? Do any icons show up in
the main part of the window, e.g. Drive C:, that you can double-click to
    open?

Expand is not grayed out. My mapped network drives are visible. When I am
parked on "Computer" on the left pane, then only thing in the right pane is a
desktop.ini file, which happens to be empty. I cannot see C: or any other
    subdirectory of my computer.

Not sure why this is happening?

Go to Start and type: explorer in the results, right click Windows
Explorer and select Properties. Copy / Paste the following in the Target
    Line.

    %SystemRoot%\explorer.exe /e,

    Click Apply/OK.

Go back to Start and type Explorer again and press Enter.

Did this open explorer with Computer expanded?

Right click the desktop.ini - Properties - and what does it say the path is.
Files can't exist in My Computer so it is showing something else.

Re: Windows Explorer will not expand at "Computer"

Yes, you do have a registry issue.

Try the suggestion in the previous post, to determine the location of the
desktop.ini, by looking at its properties. Also, when you look at the
properties of Computer in the left side navigation pane, does it take
    you to Control Panel\System?

To check one registry value, go to Start Menu > Search, and type run in the
box. Open the Run program and copy and paste the following into its box:

    %SystemRoot%\explorer.exe /e,::{20D04FE0-3AEA-1069-A2D8-08002B30309D}

Click on OK. Any errors after doing this?
