Moduslink cost breakdown for Express Upgrade to Vista

Can someone please explain the logic/cost breakdown for the 25$ CDN Moduslink
is charging me for the "free" "express" upgrade to Windows Vista?

1) I read "Free express upgrade to Windows Vista" somewhere when I bougth my
PC. Ok... sure, nothing is "free", but with 25$, and using "Standard"
shipping methods I thought one could ship a package, slightly larger than the
size of a DVD, a couple times around the globe... and if not even within a
single week.

2) I submitted my request for this "express" upgrade so far back in time
that I was actually able to speek on the phone with what sounded like a human
being working as a representative for Moduslink.

So far, my experience with ModusLink's entire circular process of order
validation/cancellation accompanied by multiple credit-card information
requests, triggers flashbacks of all these shows I've seen on TV, or read
about all kinds of Con schemes such as Nigerian Spam Scams.

Re: Moduslink cost breakdown for Express Upgrade to Vista

Reminds me of some eBay vendors.... "P4 Laptop, $100 New, Buy it now!
Shipping: $399.00". And a separate handling charge of $100....

From what I hear, the ModusLink's process hasn't been very user friendly, at
all. Hopefully, Microsoft listens to all the complaints and makes things
right. If not this time, with the next release (if they don't alienate
people from the Express Upgrade).

I just got a Cisco switch and router shipped to me across the US for under
$20 from FedEx. A good 10 pounds. Maybe they can get Amazon to do the
shipping, they have free shipping and it gets there within a week or so. Pay
$5 and get it in a few days...

Ask CDN Moduslink. If no joy then you may have been scammed.

Re: Moduslink cost breakdown for Express Upgrade to Vista

I realised today that I had sent a scan of my Acer laptop receipt back to an
automatic email address which sent my order number email. Luckily I realised
today 14th March, the cut off date is 15th March! I have not had any
confirmation but hopefully I will see a shipping date soon on the Moduslink
website?

RE: Moduslink cost breakdown for Express Upgrade to Vista

Consider yourself lucky. My shipping costs are $27.64. On top of that it
took me until February 8 to get my Redemption Number. I filed the same day
with all required information and faxed in my proof of ownership etc. and it
took Moduslink until March 6th to validate my order. In an email sent to me
on March 6th from them they're saying it will still take another 4 - 6 weeks
to ship my order and for me to notify them prior to May 1 if I haven't
received my upgrade. You shouldn't have to wait up to three months for
delivery.

Microsoft should have never allowed this to happen and shame on us for
putting up with it. Next time I'll certainly know better.

Re: Moduslink cost breakdown for Express Upgrade to Vista

Complain to the retailer or maker of your new PC.
Aren't they the ones who touted the "free" Vista upgrade in order
to entice you to buy?

ModusLink tried to charge me US$17 for shipping, handling, and tax.
I complained loudly to HP's corporate office, and wound up getting
the upgrade totally free.

ModusLink emailed me 8 days ago saying my upgrade copy had shipped.
They must have shipped it via mule train because it hasn't arrived yet. :-(

Re: Moduslink cost breakdown for Express Upgrade to Vista

You are the first person I've heard of that has actually got notice that
their upgrade has shipped. Please post when it arrives. I've been thinking
this whole thing is a big scam up to now.

I applied in early Dec. for my copy, received word soon afterwards that they
had recieved my paperwork and would email when it was validated. Never got
that email, though the site listed me as validated. Emailed to find out why
I hadn't heard from them and they said they didn't have my paperwork (not
true). Sent paperwork again and got email they had received it and site
still listed me as validated. Recently site said my order was approved. But
I can't get any date from anyone other than the canned 4-6 weeks...but from
when?

RE: Moduslink cost breakdown for Express Upgrade to Vista

I never got my copy I went out and bought Home Premium. I never could get a
straight answer from Moduslink as to when i'd get my copy, so I went and
bought it. If i end up getting it in the mail, there;s always Ebay to sell it
on.
