NetMeeting to Meeting Space Crossover

Greetings all...

I am looking for a little insight as to how everyone is coping with the
change from Microsoft NetMeeting to Windows Meeting Space?

It is my understanding that NetMeeting is going to retire with XP... and
that Windows Meeting Space is the Vista replacement for NetMeeting.
Unfortunately, it does not appear that NetMeeting can be installed on Vista,
nor can Windows Meeting Space be installed on XP. To top it off... neither
seems to be able to communicate with each other.

My issue is that the company that I work for supports clients through
NetMeeting. Once these clients begin to migrate toward Vista, we will need to
support both operating systems at the same time. At this point, it does not
appear that I can do this from 1 computer and stay within the family of
Microsoft products.

Any suggestions? And please keep in mind that we would like to transition
this without burdening our clients with the purchase of additional software.

Thank you for your time!

Re: NetMeeting to Meeting Space Crossover

Hmmm... I have a similar problem. However good Meeting Space may be it
doesn't help in communicating with the 98% of machines that are still on XP.

You can download and install the standalone NetMeeting 3.01 from Microsoft:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...DisplayLang=en

That will allow most functions of Netmeeting and will allow an XP system to
share it's desktop, but won't allow the vista machine to share its desktop.

It's better than nothing and hopefully Microsoft will extend its
functionality (soon?)

Re: NetMeeting to Meeting Space Crossover

A better solution:

Netmeeting-kb927853-x86-enu.msi

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/927853

This will get you the KB article, which says to call MS to get the
installation file (free call; just remember to tell the first person to
answer the call that this is to get a patch, and NOT a request for problem
analysis). At least this is how it's supposed to work, but over the past few
months Microsoft has been *very* reluctant to divulge any information about
when (and if) NM 3.02 would be released.

Premier customers can download the patch directly from the Premier web
server.

Re: NetMeeting to Meeting Space Crossover

Thanks Joe. From the blurb it sounds like it'll do everything I need. I'll
call them tomorrow.
